Just a note in my research of the Posen, Presque Isle County area a Szplett family here changed their spelling to Splett, and some to Splitt.

The oldest record of this family I can find is of a Johannes " John " Szplett who married a Eleanor Hoppe in 1846 in Wawelno Poland. Their son Michael was born 20 August 1849 and died 1 February 1929 in Alpena, spending most his time in the Metz, Presque Isle County area. He married a Konstancia " Constance " Nowicka about 1874 in unknown. According to his 1900 census he came to America in 1874.

And there is also a Jozef " Joseph " Spleet who was born 16 June 1842 and died 5 March 1919 in Metz, Presque Isle Co., MI. His relationship to Michael is unknown to me, but as they lived in the same vincinity, one would assume they are related.

In research this family I have also found a Szplet, Maryanna died 5 Dec 1907 at the age of 65 from Wawelno in Milwaukee. WI. So there is most likely a tie to this family also from Milwaukee, that you had mentioned some of your family may have gone there.

I am not related to these families, but they tie into my X's side of her family, and I am researching them on behalf of my children.

Happy Hunting.
