Hi, I am a little confused about Patricia Robbins Spina. Was Spina her married name? I too am searching for a Spina family from the Chicago area. John Spina moved to Illinois and died there, but later was buried in Saint Louis, MO. He was born in 1902, wife Matilda, children K. Frances, but might have had others, that was all I could find. Do you have any other info? Do you know what Patricia's husband's name was? Coincidentally, I have the same name, Regards, Patricia Spina-Giordano

My Grandfather's name is Guiseppe Spina and he did come from Calabria. As I understand it, he worked for the Railroad and settled in Corleone, Sicilia. He had 6 children, one of whom is my Dad, who settled on Long Island NY. I hope you may have more info than I have?
Joe Spina

MNOBrien: I forgot to ask, do you have a birth cert that has your mothers name on it? I found Patricia and Bernice with last name as "Robbins". This is the last name that my father and mother always used when they spoke about your mother and how to locate her....I do not have location information on Bernice. Patricia is in Florida last I heard. And the census has Robbins as the last name for Patricia. Bud did say he thought he had two or three other half sisters when we spoke about his family. Thanks again. Christina

I believe his birth mother was my mother (Bernice Robin), we have no idea what happened to her, she abandoned us all. He was adopted by her sister Patricia Spina (Robin) in Chicago area. He had two half brothers and one half sister - me. His adopted brother was Tony (deceased) and Richard Spina and sister, Patty Jewel all from Chicago area. I don't know where they are now. I was in touch with his mother, but she hasn't responded to my letters in a few years.

I am researching Spina also in Boiano. Unfortunately, I only have a last name. The indivudal with Spina last name married a Domenico Consezio Luca Guarino and they had at least one child, Graziella Guarino. From what I understand from the last family member still in Italy, all of the related Spinas, Guarinos, etc., emmigrated to the US. Any help piecing together names for the Domenico Guarino and ??? Spina family will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Lynette Guarino

My grandfather, Costantino Spina, was in NY & Massachusetts for a while when he came to America before settling in Detroit, MI. His wife, Guillietta (Julia) Perri came later. They had 10 children; 7 lived long enough to have families. One of their daughters is still living in Michigan and is about 95 yrs old. Costantino's paraents, Salvatore Spina & Rosaria Rossi remained in Calabria. I know at least one brother (might be Arthur) and a sister (Mattiucca or Mary) came to America, too. Mary married Mike Camerota and his brother moved to California. He had a cousin that moved to North Bay, Ontario, Canada. He also was related to the Reda family.
On my last trip to North Bay, I discovered a family connection. His name was Mark Spina. We're not sure how we are related, but, he remembers that my grandfather, Costantino (who lived in Detroit), would call every week to talk with his father. I plan to be in North Bay in late May or early June of 2011 to visit my mother's family - Conti/Conto/Conte - spelling variations. It would be nice to meet & compare information. My grandfather's parents were Salvatore Spina & Rosina Rossi. I believe one brother moved to California and the one sister that I know of married Mike Camerota.
You can email me at ronorterry@cox.net

They came from Santa Maria Di Licodia, Catania, Sicily. That's not far from Mt. Etna. My mother was born in the Bronx in 1933.

I will set you up with an invitation to view my family tree on Ancestry. That way you can view the tree. It's under the name of Clement. That's my maiden name. Then you can spend the time to look it over.

Ask as many questions as you want. This is fun!! :) In the Bronx, well, there were cousins but i'd have to ask my mother if she can remember anyone's names. If you go to the library they should have full access to Ancestry.com so you can use it to look up the censuses there and get all kinds of real cool info.! It's great to have the library for this otherwise it is expensive to have a subscription. Call your library to make sure they are subscribed to Ancestry.com. They probably have it. You'll be amazed at the things you can find. Let me know if they have it. I'd love to know.

:) Julie

email address is jcmaffia@msn.com

Have you checked out Ellis Island manifests? All my family is listed there. I am 65 yars old and am seeking information about my grandfather Giovanni Spina. He came to the US twice, the second time marrying my grandmother. After several years he left her and went back to Italy. Not sure if he ever returned to the US. I know he had a brother Rosario here and a nephew Giuseppe. Last names are Spina. There was family in the Bronx and Staten Island.

Thanks so much for your reply. No I haven't checked the manifest because I do not know my biological parents names. I do know that my materal grandfather was 65 years old, and my maternal grandmother was 57 years old when I was born in 1953. My grandfather had a chronic case of pyorrhea, and my grandmother suffered with ulcers. Does this match any information that you might have? I am looking into getting my original birth certificate, and I am registering with the adoption registry in the hope that they will give me more information. I await your reply.

Carmine Spina

I am looking for information on my grandfather, Carmine Spina, who was born in 1871 in Pietrafitta, CS, Italy and died in 1931 in Pietrafitta. He made various trips to the US and Canada beween 1894 and 1925. I believe that he lived in the North Bay area the last time. His brothers Pietro Spina (born 1878) and Rocco Spina (born 1880) also made numerous trips to the US and/or Canada. I have been unable to locate my grandfather or his brothers on any census records or city directories in the US/Canada. Rocco may not have returned to Italy. If anyone has any information on any of them or any idea of how to track their whereabouts in Canada or the US, it would be greatly appreciated.

They came to Baltimore in 1904. During the great fire of Baltimore. They were told they should go back to Italy because everything was burned up. But Carmela said that there would be jobs to rebuild. They stayed and lived in Little Itay. Leonardo laid tracks for the streetcars, and carmela made men's suits. They had six girls Leona (my grandmother), Lucy, Josephine, Antonette, Franci, and Mary (she died very young). And they had a son that died at 12, Philip. He got a pimple and sqeezed it and it got infected and he died from it. Then they moved to a house on Robinson St. in Baltimore.

My grandmother is Rose Leduc Maiden name Spina. Her Great Grandfather was Santo Spina and married to Carmella DiSava. Her name appears on the Manifest of a ship from Naples in Oct 1907 listing her permanent residence in Santa Maria di Lacodia. She is traveling with 4 children including Grazia and my grandmother's father Giovanni (aka John). They all settled in Lawrence Mass. Santo and Carmella would be my Great-Great-Grandparents. By 1910 Santo remarries to a woman named Rosalia Larosa. I think Carmella must have passed away but I haven't quite figured that out yet. Carmella has a sister Anna referenced on the Manifest as well.

Brian Spatola
