Although I am not related to the Sphar Family (at least, not that I know of yet) my ancestors were neighbors of the Sphars in Washington County, PA in the late 1700's. My 4th great grandfather, Joseph Chester, had a farm adjoining the Sphar farm (I think it was Henry Sphar). In researching my family, I found out that several Chesters are buried in the old Sphar family cemetery. All I knew was that it was in Washington County, PA overlooking the Monongahela River. I have been piecing evidence and data together for a couple of years to pinpoint the location of this cemetery and have finally found it this summer. It lies in a farmers field and is in a state of horrible disrepair - overgrown with weeds...the iron fence is torn up...all of the stones are lying on the ground and most are unreadable. However, some were readable and, in fact, I found one Chester stone in pretty good condition. There were also two Sphar stones that were partially readable - "In Memory of John Sphar who died Feb. 6, ????" and "Susannah Wife of John Sphar who died July 17 1851 in the 77 year of her age". There are also some stones for members of the Furnier family that are partially readable. The cemetery is on private property and I had to ask the current owners for permission to go there.
Its not much info, but if anyone wants directions to the property, please post a response.
