Speak(e)s Family Project Update

Cousins,

I want to take a minute to update the family on the progress of the Speakes DNA Family Project.

We have had 6 men test so far. The results have been confusing. So far we have two of the 6 who are father and son and who match each other (thank goodness) who claim to descend from the Thomas, Bowling, Thomas line.

We have two other men who match each other and who both descend from the Thomas, Bowling, Thomas line, but they don't match the father/son pair.

Then we have two other men who don't match anyone.

Needless to say, we desperately need more Speak(e)s men, and any other derivative spellings as well, to test so we can build a tree. At this point, we don't really know anything about what the ancestral Speak(e)s DNA looks like, or what the various lines of descent look like either.

I've been asked to provide an update next year at the annual conference, and with what I have so far, we won't have anything to report. Please, if you are a Speak(e)s male, consider testing. If you are a female, dig up a male Speak(e)s cousin and offer to pay for his testing, since I know you'd test yourself in a heartbeat if you had that Y-chromasome necessary to participate.

For anyone who wants to test, today we received two gift certificates that will pay for part of a 25 or 37 marker male y-line test, or a female mtdna test. All expire at the end of 2005 if unused. If anyone is interested, contact me and I'll let you know hot to get the discount or answer any question about the testing you might have.
