LANCASTER: Shirley Jean Bressler, age 71 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Monday, November 9, 2015 at Fairfield Medical Center.
She was born April 25, 1944, daughter of the late Delno and Goldie (Baur) Spangler.
Shirley grew up with her brother Denny and two sisters, Diane and Sharon.

Shirley is survived by her mother, Lena Simpson, of Florida; sister, Diane Flemming, of Florida; brother, Denny (Bonnie) Spangler, of Lancaster; many special aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Bressler; father, Delno Spangler; mother, Goldie Baur; sister, Sharon Shaeffer; brother, Dorwin Spangler; niece, Missy Sherrick.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Paul Wymer officiating.
Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Family requests memorial contributions to the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church.

This family is my line.
Rev. Jacob F. Spangler 1860-1939 and Roberta F. Howrey 1858-1956 (death date is questionable only because 1956 is also listed as date of death for son, "Isaac" and I know that is wrong). Rev. Jacob's father was, David R. b. 1841 his father, William b.1790 or 1792 his father, Daniel Jr b.1747 his father, Daniel b. 1717. Jacob and Roberta had the following children:

1. Naomi 1883-1951 married William Ray
2. Archie (Arch) J. 1886-1973 married Rachel Ann Edwards
3. Isaac (Hugie) Huh 1887-1970's married Mary Knowls, Knowels or Noels (Her cousin was the leading Hollywood actor, John Payne of the 40's and 50's). At the time of his death he lived in Chesapeake, VA with his daughter, Evelyn Roberta Spangler who married Raymond Austin Clark. Isaac and Mary were buried at "Happy Home Church Cemetery." Isaac (Hugie) was my Great-Great-Grandpa "Poppa Spangler" and I remember him well. When Hugie and Mary married, they moved to Spray, NC (same area as Floyd, VA but just south into Carolina). This is where Mary, "Grannie's" familly was from. From there they moved into Norfolk, VA during WWII to chase after jobs. I am still in Chesapeake, VA.
4. Noah Payne Sr. (Noey) (I don't have birth and death but, I know this was Poppa's brother who was born after Poppa and before David). married Otelia Adams
5. Rev. David Vinton 1902-1985 married Nannie Turpin.
6. Ula a female who married a Lawrence or a Phillip
7. unknown female who married a Lawrence or a Phillip
Most of my information came from Isaac Hue Jr. (Ikie) before he past away.
Family members of this direct line still live in Danvile, VA and we are in touch.

This family is my line. These Spanglers are from the "Daniel Spangler b.1717" line and in the Floyd, VA area. Your birth year for Roberta reflects what I have though, your birth year for Noah is wrong or, the Noah you have is a different Noah.

My gmother was Edna (Fulmer) Scott d. of Jacob L. Fulmer b. 1868 and Amanda Spangler b. 1868. I don't believe Amanda was Edna's mother as she was age 9 when Amanda married Jacob Fulmer. I have seen information that Jacob was married to Amanda Duck. This is confusing ... Are there two Amanda's ? Who was Jacob's first wife and the mother of Edna (Fulmer) Scott.
I would appreciate it so much if you could add any information to clarify this.

i don't know much about Bob Spangler either -- i am actually more interested in the Finch part of the family. i know i have pictures of your father as a child in my grandmother's (Charlotte Burlington) albums. do you have an aunt as well? i seem to remember my dad mentioning that Jon had a sister (and i am sure she is in the pictures too if i am remembering this right). i am not sure how long it's been since your dad talked to my dad but i know my dad would be interested to know how you all are doing.

Robert Spangler was my step grand father. He was married to Jean Spangler (my grandmother). Jean Spangler had 2 children before she was married to Bob, one of whom is my father, Jon Finch. I don't personally have much information on Bob Spangler but my father does and there's a bunch of pictures of him at his house. I've been told he was a drummer for Glenn Miller and Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey. He also collected model trains (which my father now currently has). I don't have much more information off hand but I could find out more if requested.

LANCASTER: Ruth Elaine Spangler, 98, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in Pickering House.

She was born on March 17, 1916 in Hocking County, Ohio a daughter of the late Homer and Laura (Patton) Sudlow. She was a member of Faith Memorial Church.

Ruth is survived by her son, Charles Kennard "Ken" (Marilyn Su) Spangler; grandsons, Trenton Frederick "Trent" (Julie) Spangler and Travis Layman (Tammy) Spangler; a great granddaughter, Kourtney Lea Spangler and two great grandsons, Bryce Andrew and Anthony James Spangler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick E. "Fred" Spangler in 1986; brothers, Walter, Herbert and Norman and a sister, Edith Irene.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-5pm in the Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 10 am in the Faith Memorial Church with Pastors Mel Truex, Frank Carl and John Beckett officiating.

Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Looking for the families of Christian (Christopher) Spangler from Franklin, PA born 1815 married Catherine Bohn from Howard, PA born 1813. They moved to Ohio around 1845 and had a family. Both are buried in Willard (Chicago Junction), Ohio. Their younger children are buried here but the older ones can't be found.

Simon B. Spangler was born in Fairfield Co., OH in 1833 to Philip and Catherine Miller Spangler. (Philip was my g-g-g-grandfather.) Catherine was Philip's fourth wife; they were married in Fairfield Co., OH, 31 Jan 1826.
The wives in order were:
1. Christina Sauter; child: Benjamin, born in Shanadoah Co., VA
2. Nancy Clarke; children: Elizabeth, John, Abram (my g-g-grandfathr), George, all born in Fairfield Co., OH.
3. Kitha Ward; child: Philip Jr., born in Fairfield Co., OH
4. Catherine Miller; children: Rebecca A., Mary Magdalene, Simon B., all born in Fairfield Co.
Catherine remained a widow for 16 years after Philip's death in 4 Oct 1836. On 5 Feb 1852 she remarried -- to Jacob Pence, born PA 1774; d in OH between 1852 and 1860. Catherine died after 1860 since she appears in the 1860 census as Catherine Pence. I can give you some data regarding Simon and Selina's children if you would like.

Margaret (J.) Spangler

I am looking for Margaret Spangler born @1848. Margaret was in an orphanage in Carlisle PA before the Civil War. Margaret ran away from the orphanage (with her sister-no info on her name or age) when the troops advanced to Gettysburg. Family history is that the 2 hid in a barn and heard the fighting around them. I think Margaret's middle name began with a "J".

Margaret is my GGG grandmother. Any info would greatly appreciated!!!

I have been doing research into my Spangler/Spengler ancestry. I have found the site http://www.findagrave.com to be very helpful. While looking for information on the Charles G. Downs married to Clara Anderson, I found this Charles G. Downs:

I know the younger Charles G. Downs was from Maryland, and the DOB of this Charles G. Downs would be consistent with the father of the younger Charles G. Downs. It says that this Charles G. Down fought in the Mexican War.

It certainly would be worth looking at it to see if it gets you one step further down the road. I hope it helps.

SPANGLER-HARTMAN--In Longmont, Wednesday, May 4, 1921, P. Keith Spangler and Miss Katherine Hartman.
Very beautiful in every detail was the marriage of Mr. P. Keith Spangler and Miss Katherine Hartman which was solemnized at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hartman, Wednesday, at three o'clock.
The rooms were exquisitely decorated with pink roses and ferns and the bridal party stood in a perfect bower of smilax, ferns and pink roses, while on each side stood huge baskets of the same flowers. Just preceding the ceremony Mrs. Grant Hartman beautifully sang "At Dawning," and "Because", with piano accompaniment by Mrs. Monroe Markley. The stately chords of Mendelssohn's Wedding March announced the arrival of the bridal party. Miss Hartman entered with her father who gave her in marriage. Her gown was a beautiful creation of charmeuse with over drape of silk lace and she carried Ophelia roses with a shower of Valley lilies. Miss Lena Twombly of Fort Lupton was maid of honor, she being daintily attired in pin organdle and carried Columbia roses. Mrs. John Hartmand and Mrs. D. W. Spangler, mother of bride and groom, were Matrons of Honor and each carried bouquets of pink roses. Mr. Ted Hartman, brother of the bride, attended the groom. Mrs. Markley played softly while Rev. Monroe Markley read the impressive ring ceremony.
While congratulations were being extended Mrs. Markley played the Bridal chorus from Wagner's Lohengrin. Dainty refreshments were served after which Mrs. P. Keith Spangler donned her going away suit of navy blue with hat to match, and the happy pair left in their car, for a honeymoon trip to the Spangler cabin in Ferncliff.
Upon their return they will reside on Long's Peak avenue.
Mr. and Mrs. Spangler have grown from childhood in Longmont and the marriage is the culmination of a romance which dates back to school days. Mrs. Spangler attended the University of Colorado, three years and was graduated from the University of Southern California. Mr. Spangler holds a responsible position with the Great Western Sugar Company.

Looking for genealogical information regarding Rev. Isaac Spangler (known on official documents as J. Spangler). Born about 1820 or 1822. Married Ann Elizabeth Lamb. Had Lela Lamb Spangler.

I cannot find information regarding birth of Isaac (or J.) Spangler, other than census records during adulthood that state place of birth as Maryland. I would like to find info about his parents, siblings, etc.

J./Isaac Spangler served as Chaplain General of the Knights of the Golden Circle. Spangler married in Charles City, VA. During the Civil War he served as a chaplain for the Confederacy, seeing conflict in eastern Tennessee. After the war he resided in Auburn, then Montgomery, Alabama.

CROOKSVILLE: Nancy Jane Williams, 73, of Crooksville, Ohio formerly of Roseville, Ohio passed away at 3:38 PM. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at her son's residence after an extended illness.

She was born September 22, 1939 in Crooksville, Ohio (Perry County) the daughter of the late Harold "Red" and Lena Wolfe Spangler.

Nancy was a former employee of Brush Pottery in Roseville, Ohio, Essex Wire and 5B's Embroidery, both in Zanesville, and a consultant for Longaberger Basket Company in Dresden, OHIO.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Roseville, Ohio as well as the Roseville Villagettes Mothers' Club, Red Hats Group of Roseville, Ohio and the Perry County Senior Council.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Steve Moody of Zanesville, OH; her sons and daughters-in-law Kelly and Brenda Williams and Kevin and Renaye Williams all of Roseville, Ohio; her sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Larry Frash of Roseville, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren, Jessica and John Spears, Andrea Williams, Brady Williams and Robin Rutter, Dustin Williams, Matthew and Patricia Williams, Wesley Williams, Jacob Williams, Jenna Lavey and Brandon Lawson, Heather Ward, Kasey and Kasey Brownrigg, Brandon Bates, Josh Moody and Ashley and Josh Parrish; seven great grandchildren, Brian, Kyrstien and Kaliegh Durst, Blake Spears, Mason Stacy, Korbin Williams and Lyla Brownrigg.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Dan O'Dell Williams who passed away May 26, 2004; her grandson, Brian Daniel Williams and her son-in-law, Max Ward.

Family and friends will be received 5-8:00 PM, Friday, July 5, 2013 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Nancy's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 6 at the funeral home with Rev. Alex Brown officiating.

PATASKALA: Ralph L. Spangler, 69, of Pataskala, Ohio died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Kindred Health Care, Newark, OHIO.

Ralph was born April 8, 1944 in Zanesville, OHIO to the late, Bob and Madeleine (Schleiffer) Spangler.

He graduated from Newark High School and was a member of the US Marine Corp. during Vietnam.

Ralph was a member of many area bands.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jan Spangler of Pataskala; two sons and three daughters, Brian Spangler of Eugene, OR, Summer (Derek) Cummins of Grove City, Ohio, Kari (Chris) Spangler of Gahanna, Ohio, Scott (Emily) Spangler of Pataskala, Beth Spangler of Brooklyn, NY; one brother and five sisters, James Spangler of Gainesville, FL, Bobbi Jean Dutiel of Newark, Sharon Brewington of Orlando, FL, Virginia "Sis" Stegmeier of Pyalup, WA, Connie Gartner of Newark, Pamela Spangler of Battlecreek, MI; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson; many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his sister, Kimberly Spangler.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the church from 1 to 3 PM.

Jerry Spangler - Pickaway County, Ohio

CIRCLEVILLE: Jerry Spangler, 72, of Circleville, Ohio passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014. He was born on July 20, 1941 in Circleville to Charles and Lucia (Kreider) Spangler.

He was a 1961 graduate of Logan Elm High School and a salesman for Handi-clean. Jerry was a member of the Eagles and enjoyed bowling and spending time visiting friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Amy Marie Spangler of Istanbul, Turkey; one brother, Charles (Martha) Spangler of South Carolina; one niece, Heaven Myers; one nephew, Michael (Kimberley) Spangler; and one great niece, Mikayla.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be at a later date.

WILLIAMSPORT: Juanita Hanson, 79, of Williamsport passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 in Circleville, Ohio.

Juanita was born on September 15, 1934 in Ross County, Ohio to Edward and Violet (Miller) Spangler.

She was a retiree from G.E. and worked at Picca and served on the Board there.

She served on the Board of Public Affairs of Williamsport and was a member of Methodist Church of Williamsport.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hanson, son, Patrick Allen, daughter, Christy Hanson Withers and by brothers, Glen and William Spangler.

Juanita is survived by son, Terry (Marlene) Hanson of Williamsport; two granddaughters, Natalie Hanson (Chuck) Byrd, Shawna Withers (Jon) Baumann; three great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Xander and Avery; siblings, Floyd (Carol) Spangler, Gale and Douglas Spangler; and by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with burial to follow in Springlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 p.m.

William D. 'Bill' Spangler - Galion, Ohio

CRESTLINE: William D. 'Bill' Spangler, 65, of Galion, Ohio, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus after an extended illness.

Bill was born in Crestline, Ohio on December 28, 1948 to the late William and Pauline (Watt) Spangler.
He attended Colonel Crawford High School and was a member of the Class of 1967.
He also attended The Ohio State University, Mansfield and Ashland University, Ashland.

He started his employment as a manager at the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Ashland, OH.

In 1976, he invested in the franchise and in 1978 built the new Kentucky Fried Chicken in Galion owning it until 2000.
He is the current owner of (Green Outdoor Yard Service).
Bill was a member of the Gospel Baptist Church, Galion.
He was active with Colonel Crawford, Crestline and Galion Athletic Fields and it was his passion taking care of the Colonel Crawford fields.
He loved coaching baseball and softball at Colonel Crawford. He was an active member of Colonel Crawford Booster Club and a great supporter of the community.
He was a proud Ohio State Buckeye fan.
He enjoyed traveling, camping, and horseracing, even owning horses of his own.

He is survived by his two sons, Shawn and Vicki Spangler, Crestline and Chad Spangler, Cape Coral, FL; his four grandsons, Cameron Spangler, Evan Spangler, Caulen Spangler and Caden Spangler; the mother of his two sons, Linda Rhoads, Rochester, IN; his sister, Sharon Studer, Bucyrus; three half-brothers, Mark and Chris Spangler, Columbus, Ohio, Mike Spangler, Kentucky, and Jed and Elissa Spangler, Columbus; his half-sister, Mary Ann and Alan Furner, Bucyrus; his uncle and aunt Carl and Margie Watt, Galion, OH; cousins, Ron and Kristi Fox, Galion, Tammy and Tim McHugh Tucson, AZ and Chuck Thoman, Crestline; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends

Dorothy A. (Spangler) McKinney, age 85, of Shelby, Ohio died unexpectedly at her home on Friday, November 22, 2013.

Dorothy was born August 5, 1928 in Shelby, OH the daughter of the late Robert M. and Caroline (Kurtzman) Spangler.

A 1946 graduate of Shelby High School, she had been employed at the Shelby Sales Book, Peoples Store and Lemmerman's Drug Store.
In addition to that, Dorothy babysat and cared for numerous children over the years.

She was a member of the Richland County, Ohio Fair Board Auxiliary

.She is survived by three sons, Michael E. McKinney, John S. McKinney and Robert "Marty" McKinney; three daughters-in-law, Pamela K., Shannon and Christine "Tina"; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Katie, Annie and Megan McKinney; a step grandson, Ryan Curren and his daughter, Hannah; a son-in-law, Pete Clark; a sister-in-law, Catherine "Katie" Spangler.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. McKinney in 2012; daughter, Jean Clark; granddaughter, Tracy Clark; four brothers, John, Robert, Francis and Leo Spangler; two sisters, Elfreda Beimler and Catherine Beltz.

Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM conducted by Deacon Steven C. Keller.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

SHELBY: Joyce M. Russell, age 83, of Shelby, Ohio died Sunday morning November 3, 2013 at the Hospice House in Ashland, Ohio.

Born November 15, 1929 in Shelby, Ohio to Ambrose and Dolly (Ward) Spangler, she has been a Shelby resident her entire life.

Joyce enjoyed reading and will always be remembered for having a great sense of humor.

Survivors include three daughters, Deanne Brokaw (Brett Heffner) of Shelby, Ohio, Lynne (Barry) Argo of Shelby, and Stephanie (Aaron) Hansen of Shelby; 11 grandchildren, Stephen, Lindsay, Jennifer, Hayley, Rhianon, Briton, Holland, Emily, Gabriel, Dylan and Caleb; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Rose Will, Elinor (Richard) Kelly and Shirley Cornell, all of Shelby, OH; one brother, Richard (Joan) Spangler of Shelby; one sister-in-law, Janet (Larry) Fulk of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John R. Russell in 2011; two sisters, Donna Spangler and Doris Pfhaler; and two brothers, Harold and Dean Spangler.

A private family funeral service will be held Tuesday November 5, 2013 at the Barkdull Funeral Home, conducted by Father James Sanford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:30 PM- 2:30 PM.

Needing Deathdate For Joseph W Spangler of Cumberland Co., PA

I have the deathdate of his wife and each of his three children, but his I can't find. He was born in 1884 in PA and died in Wormleysburg, Cumberland Co. PA. Buried at Zion Lutheran Church in Enola, Cumberland Co. PA. The website for the church where it lists burials doesn't include his deathdate. I contacted the church about it but I haven't heard back yet. I do know he died between 1930 & 1940 because he's in the 1930 census but not the one for 1940 and his wife is listed as widowed in 1940. I don't know who his parents are or I'd list them. But I need his deathdate so I can get his obituary and identify his parents. His wife was Reba Yost and his children were Joseph A, George A, & Catherine M. He's in Cumberland Co. PA in 1920 & 1930. Can't find him in 1910. Both the 1920 & 1930 censuses say his father was born in Germany. Can anyone help with his deathdate or maybe his parents with the info I've given here? Any and all help appreciated.

I have one census showing him born in Oklahoma, one showing him born in Missouri and another showing him born in Kansas. His Sister told her grandchildren that she remembered riding in a covered wagon from either Virginia or West Virginia when she was a young girl. So where was my Claude Spangler born, who are his parents and why all the different birth places listed on the different census records? Did he have something to hide? Frustating! Attached is a photo of him if that would help anyone out there help me with information.

It seems my Great Grandfather fell from the sky. I can't find his parents anywhere. He was born according to his draft registration in August 1890 in Kansas City. That's all I have. I know he married 5 times. Once to my Great Grandmother Ella Brasher/Brazier, Lola Carter twice, Roxie Carter and Martha Harmon. He lived for a time in Sebastian, Arkansas and Leflore, Oklahoma before moving on to Texas for work. If anyone could be of assistance please contact me. Thank you.

I took drum lessons from Bob at Shupps Music in Jenkintown, PA in the mid to late 60's. I know he played with the Glenn Miller big band. Then after I launched my career as a drummer, I went back and took lessons with Bob in my late teens. At that time, probably around 75-79, he had his own studio on Easton Road in Abington Township (Willow Grove, PA).

Bob Spangler was my grandfather. He was born in 1906, and died in July, 1985. I was a pallbearer at his funeral. I was never made aware of an Edward Spangler, though that is the middle name that Bob went by. So, I guess it's possible that your husband is my cousin!

I have a very professionally done Spangler Family crest hanging in my library (picture attached...you can see the Bishop at top and metal "pitcher" at bottom). It has been part of our family (Burgoon) for years. My Uncle, Daniel Spangler Burgoon, and his 9 bothers and sisters (including my father, Richard J Burgoon) were all originally from Altoona PA. I have been told that at some point, a Burgoon married a Spangler and the Burgoon's "adopted" the crest of the Spangler family. Apparently our lineage may go back to General John Burgoyne who surrendered to the US to end the Revolutionary War. If anybody can help find when/if a Burgoon and Spangler were married I would be very grateful! My fathers actual middle name, and my middle name, Piper, are also apparently derived from the surname of a woman who married into the family...any connections between the Piper family and Spangler family? Thank you.
