Forgive me for not having this all clear in my mind. My husband and I are having a house built and will be moving in soon( hopefully 2 weeks) I have all my genealogy packed so I can't get the information I need. Were the adopted children Underwoods? I remember that name in connection with this family. My greatgreatgreatgrandfather was Thomas Spain living in Pickens Co. in 1850. I believe that Thomas and John may have been brothers. I believe that they have a connection to Fredrick who lived in Morgan Co. in 1830 census.
I find a Thomas Spain and Elizabeth Little marrying in Jefferson Co. in 183? . In the 1850 Pickens Co. Census list Rebecca as Thomas's wife. This has all been a puzzle for me for over 20 yrs. I have never found Rebecca maiden name and have often speculated that she and Elizabeth may be the same person Elizabeth Rebecca Little.
Family oral history says that Rebecca was of Cherokee blood.
Her Husband and oldest son are buried beside each other at Unity Cemetary in Pickens Co. I've been told she is buried in an unmarked grave in a cemetary across from the Old Westinghouse Plant on HWY 17 When I went to this place it was so grown up you couldn't get to it.
