SALEM – Eugene “Ike” Edward Spack, 92, passed away at Salem Regional Medical Center on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014.
Eugene was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Salem, Ohio the son of the late Michael and Elisabeth (Hermann) Spack.
Mr. Spack was a 1940 graduate of Salem High School, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former POW.
Eugene was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Saxon Club, Amvets, and DAV, and he received the Legion of Honor from the French Government and a bronze star.
Ike was an avid golfer, and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Hilda (Seeger) Spack, whom he married Aug. 31, 1946; two daughters, Carol (Donald) Kuner of Salem and Heidi Spack of Salem; three grandchildren, Christian (Emily) Kuner, Sean (Debra) Kuner and Nicholas (Heather Pastore) Prislipsky; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Edward; and six brothers, Mike, Simon, George, Robert, Albert and infant Rudolph.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Wilkins officiating.
Friends may call at the Brown Funeral Home in Salem today, Dec. 29, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
