James H. Spacht
James H. Spacht, 89, of Landenberg, Pa., formerly of North East, Pa., died peacefully Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Manor Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wilmington, Del. James was born on April 6, 1918 in North East, Pa., the son of the late Joseph H. and Laura (Moyer) Spacht.
He joined the service in June, 1941 and served with the 772nd Tank Battalion attached to Patton's 5th Armored Division and fought in the European campaign crossing the Rhine and into Germany during World War II. During his service in Europe, Jim was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He returned to North East, married Eleanor Metzgar Spacht, purchased the family farm and began working his grape vineyard. He was a tool and dye maker by trade at Electric Materials Co., in North East from 1939-1980. Jim was also an active member and former board member of Keystone Cooperative in North East. Jim enjoyed his family, friends, woodworking and traveling. He delighted in keeping track of his two grandsons, Shaun and Kevin.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years,
Eleanor Metzgar Spacht;

his wife of 5 years, Noreen Dingfelder Spacht;
his brother, Joseph Spacht;
and his sister, Sarah Spacht Monroe.
He is survived by his brother, Thomas Spacht, of Sherman, N.Y.;
his son, Roger Spacht, and his wife, Helen, of Landenberg, Pa.;
his daughter, Coralea Spacht Hays, and her husband, Paul,
of Natural Bridges, Utah and Death Valley, Calif.;
his grandsons, Shaun Spacht of Dillon, Colo.,
and Kevin James Spacht of Newark, Del.
Friends will be received at W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Private services, with Rev. Dr. Gregg D. Townsend officiating and burial in North East Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the American Legion Post #105, 17 S. Mill St., North East, PA 16428, or the North East Fire Dept., P.O. Box 559, North East, PA 16428.
