I have been looking for several years for the parents of Overton Southern. The earliest record I find of him is a marriage bond in Guilford, North Carolina in 1822. He is in the 1830 Guilford Census. After that, he moves on to Kentucky and then to Indiana where he died. I don't know if this has anything to do with Overton's parents, but in the 1840 census he is listed as living close to a Burton Southern in Lawrence County. Living in Overton's household is an older male listed as living with the family. This cannot be Overton's father-in-law, as I know that his wife's father died in 1816. Could this be Overton's father, unfortunately I have no real way of knowing. I have seen in some genealogies that a Worthington Southern is listed as Overton's father, but have yet to find any confirmation of this. In looking at the 1800 and 1810 census, the most likely candidate for Overton's father would appear to be Ford Southern, who is living in Stokes County at the time. However, another researcher, Michael Southern, who descends from Ford has no information on Overton being from this line. Any help on this "brick wall" would be appreciated.
