listed in spanish archives the names of sephardic jews is the surname Soto. Many of the names we consider to be Spanish are Sephardic, remember that the Spanish, Jews and Arabs lived in peace in Spain almost 900 years, so i am sure there was alot of intermarriage... My DNA is J2a4b1 whickh is one of the sephardic male blood lines. my father may never have known his jewish heritage was from Mexico and his family had been their almost since the conquest of Mexico and marriages between the sephardic,spanish and local peoples did not change the male to male DNA.

I found your post interesting and seek some more details.

My Soto family line was also from Spain and oral history is that distant relatives were Sephardic Jews. At some point one of my ancestors converted to Roman Catholic and the line made their way to the Caribbean, then in the 1900's to the US.

My question to you is: Where did you find the information that the Soto surname was Sephardic Jew and do you have that source info you can share with all of us?

Soto is a sephardic jewish name (Spanish Jews)lived many centuries in Span until the reign of King ferdinand and Queen isabella forced them to convert or leave durting the Spanish Inquisition.

my soto line originated in spain then mexico but with DNA and spanish history have discovered that many Soto's are Sephardic Jewish and were scatterd during the Spanish Inquisiton so went to many places. SOTO is one of the Sephardic Jewish surnames.

POW/MIA Korean War

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Pima County, Arizona as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: ANTONIO MOLINA SOTO
Born: 1925
Date of loss: September 1, 1950

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

My father born nov 10 1901 in Calvio, Aguascalientes,Mexico hss 3 sisters Solidad, Julia, and luisa .Their parents are Jesus ? Soto and Francisca Martinez both of them I believe were born in Aguascalients,Mexico around 1880 plus or minus a few years.. I have lost contact with the family since the Earthquake in Mexico City that is where my Aunt Solidad DeEscarraga-Soto lived with her daughter Dolores. My aunt Julia Ceres-Soto's home was in Puebla,Mexico and had lived there many years both of my Aunts I presume have passed.My aunt luisa passed before 1929 during giving birth. Any information of my grandparents siblings and or Ancestors would be much appreciated, ,Also serching for living cousins so we could reconnect..

Sorry I don't speak much spanish but my name is Carmen Carde and I'm from that states also (Georgia particularly), but I've been searching for my families history also. So far Ive gotten that Carde is not a very well known last name so it was directed by one blood line that managed to travel far as time went along. It originated in the Netherlands and its Anglo-Saxon. So far I've gotten that my family has come mostly from Canada, I'm mostly indian myself, we became Carde during the French and Indian war...and that's as far as I've gotten so far...

Searching for any information anyone might have on the SOTO family from Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico (not Nuevo Leon). My mother-in-law, Maria De Refugio Soto, was born there to Incarnacion "Cruz" Soto and Nicolasa Resendez. Incarnacion worked cattle from Fort Worth area to Leon (or vice versa...not really sure at his point).

The Soto surname is not exclusively a Hispanic surname but since you are posting here I will assume your relative Emile Soto was Hispanic or full Cree? Do you know if He was Puerto Rican, Mexican, Spanish (Spain) or other?

This information might help me point you in some good direction for further research.

do you know if there are any ties to judaism? I read somewhere the Carde surname is actually a paternal line from puerto rico; Jewish converts to christianity after the spanish inquisition.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Joshua W. Soto, 25, of San Angelo, Texas, died June 16 in Iraq of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss Texas.
