any Carde's out there

I am researching the CARDE name for a friend. His parents aren't very willing to give info but we know that they came from Pueto Rico and lived in Conn. and moved to Florida (where they still reside).

Do you know if the Carde name is short for another surname?
do you know if there are any ties to judaism? I read somewhere the Carde surname is actually a paternal line from puerto rico; Jewish converts to christianity after the spanish inquisition.

I'm Israel Carde and i'm puerto rican. My dads family is from San Sebastian PR and they lived in coneticut too.
