I'm looking for family of John W. Sosbee born 1852 in Texas. His father was Lafayette Job and mother was Tempey Ann (Clark) Sosbee. It would be nice to have some pictures of this family. Lafayette and Tempey are my gggrandparents. Thank you.

Clifton Vernon and Henry Fred Sosbee are pictured in the Service Book of Morris and Cass Counties (TX), published in 1944. I'm not kin but thought this might help someone locate their family.

Kim, there was a Lafeyette Job Sosbee in Smith County, Texas in 1850 but by 1860 he was not there. He married a Tempey Clark in Gilmer, Georgia in 1842. She remarried in 1860 or about there. I believe Job died somewhere between 1850 and 1860. He is my g-g-grandfather. I believe the Job you mentioned is the same man. Are you related? This would be wonderful if we could share some info with each other.

Willliam Daniel & Nancy Mcmillion had a son named Job b.abt 1819to 1829. That's the only Job I can find in that time frame in GA. He m. Nancy Allen. Soloman Sosebee that m. Mary Bly also had a son named Job b.1830's or 40's. Don't know where they were from.

Stella Lucas was Stella Crystal Lucas, daughter of Asa Lucas and Rose Eller. Rose Eller was my great aunt, sister to my grandmother. Stella and I are first cousins, once removed.

It is proven that ELizabeth Sorsby was wf of ___
Habersham - as in Habersham [jam] Co. - and a
descendant in Joseph Habersham mentioned in the book.
Also - Shrewsbury, Elizabeth held deed in Laurens Co., -
adjoining property of John Blackwell. He named a child Shrewsbury Blackwell. I'll share my info.

This may be a coincidence, but I am looking for information on a Lafayette Soseley who resided in Texas at about 1850, according to the Federal Census. Could there be a chance of a misspelling of the name? I know there are two other Sosely's who resided in Gerogia in 1850 and South Carolina in 1850 as well. How's it going? I saw your posting on the discussion group and thought I'd add my two cents worth. About "Elias" Sosbee......what if that word has been misspelled and he was actually "Alias" Lafayette Job Sosbee? Now that really throws a monkey wrench in things, I know, but isn't that a possibility? I know what you're thinking......so if his name is an alias, what was his REAL name? I haven't had a chance to stir up things in a while, so I'm just here to help :) !
I'm enjoying seeing all of the various spellings of Sosbee on this list. Makes me wonder if we'll ever know the original spelling. (I still think Sorsby is a good possibility!). Hope all is going well for you and your family. Take care!

My Grandfather was Paul Sosbee from Oklahoma, I think that's where he was born anyway, in Gore County somewhere perhaps? I don't know much, but he was married to Nell.

Yes, we believe Job was a surname connected - it is amazing - because I found a missing John Shrousby - and both Thomas and John connect to Geo Washington & the families coming out of Phil. Pa - into Baltimore, Maryland & Eastern shore of Va. -- & Lafayette connects to our family by way of John line - so I'm researching that angle -- but in Nash Co., NC and Warren Co., NC - we spelled our name Sosebury or Soseberry...interesting ...? Yes, we came into Jersey - Isle of Jersey and lived hundreds of years from the Normandy area of France. We do know that. Someday -- it will all come together. I'm out researching in the states for 4 months - but I live in Connecticut. I'm in Mo. now - my daughter just told me she's pregnant - so I'll have to be back here Thanksgiving to December.

Elias, thank you for responding to my message. I have discovered my Lafayette Job Sosbee born in Georgia and then moved to Texas has had the name Elias attached to it. I don't know how it happened but I have his marriage certificate and it states Lafayette Job. I have found Elias and Lafayette have the same birth dates and married the same person at the same place. Do you know about this family and how Lafayette came to be known as Elias? It interesting your name is Elias. Hope to hear from you. Shirley

Does anyone have a will or some document that will show William Sosbee married to Nancy McMillian with a list of their children. I'm looking for a son named Job born abt 1820 and I believe he belongs to this family. If there is a will showing his name I could have the proof I need. My husband's grandfather was named Solsby and was from the Pittsburgh/Somerset County area. Since this man never married his grandmother, when she did marry, her husband "adopted" my husband's father and his name has forever been changed. I'm trying to locate a Solsby who could have father a child in the 30s in the Pittsburgh area. Anyone?

Shirley Sorry cannot help you, my side of the'tree' (Shrosbree) has a couple of branches in the USA. The name contain many variants and Sosbee fits the bill(or so you would think). But I have no knowledge of the Lafayettes in America

My surname is Sosbee. Starting with my father. Paul Eudell Sosbee, Robert Scott Sosbee, Alfred Monroe Sosbee, then Lafayette Job Sosbee. I have their families. I can not find Lafayettes family. They came from Georgia. Lafayettes was married to Tempey Clark in Georgia in 1842. I have their marriage certificate. Lafyettes was born in 1820 and the censes tell me in georgia. I have searched for years for his family and can not find them. I have alot of records of the Sosbee, Sosebee, Sowerby, Shrewsbury, etc. but can not make connections. Others on the board tell me there is a connection for sure but his name does not show up anywhere. Do you know something? Please write back and tell me what you have. Shirley

Michelle, you are a Sosbee living in Ok. I have relatives with same Sosbee spelling (my maiden name is Sosbee) who lived in Ok. Alfred Monroe Sosbee lived in Ok and had children born in Ok. His children were Charley W., Minnie Morvilla, Robert Scott (my grandfather), Jessey Henry, Susan,Joseph Alfred. The names you mentioned I cannot find in my files, BUT, the father of Alfred is Laffeyette Job Sosbee who lived in Texas and had children in texas. His children were, Alfred Monroe, William J., James K,. David Lafayette,Sarah G., John W., all with a Sosbee spelling. I believe some of them moved to Ok. Do any of these names sound familiar? Sosebee is the spelling/pronounciation of French for Shrewsbury - Ruel was French family -- living in Paris, France and coming into Canada -- I have tracked that family & the Jobe family - we connect to Ernest Sosebee ... and ... well

in Walker County GA. 2 were Job Sosebee. E-mail me at

Patsy, I am still confused as to the connection of Sosbee to Ruel and Shrewsberry. I can not get my records to work with those names. I'm suire you have all my e-mail and my geneaology to Lafayette Job Sosbee. Shrewsbury - our Ruel connected to the Ruel family of
Quebec. We lived in Shrewsbury Twp., Kent Co., Canada
and the Lafayette you look for connects to Sosebee -

Betty, where is the Bible? I sure would like to know whats in it. My line comes through Lafayette Job, born in 1820 in Georgia and married in 1842 in Georgia, Gilmer Co. I can not connect him to any of the Sosebee, Sorsby, Sowerby or any other spellings in all of my research. I can't fit him in in the Sowerbys dating back to the 1600's or the Sosebees dating back to the 1700s. If you run across his name in your research please let me know. Could it be? probably not, but Shrosbrees are as hard to find as Sosbees. Shrosbrees came from U.K and hit U.S,Canada,South Africa and Australia from early 1800 onwards.
