My paternal Grandfather was Vincenzo Sorace/Soraci--he came
here in the early 1900's and enlisted in the Army in 1918 and became a US citizen by 1920. Grandfather took the American name of James Sorage. He was born in Cittanova, Reggio Calabria on March 17, 1897. He had a older brother who was already here in America with the same first name. My Grandfather was sending money home to his mother in Calabria until she died sometime between 1948 to 1954. The name Sorace has 10 telephone listing in Cittanova, Reggio Calabria
at this time. There are no listings for Soraci--so I am thinking
the spelling is probably most likely Sorace, though some of his papers report Soraci. The surname Sorace is more common in Calabria while the surname Soraci is more common in Sicily.
Grandfather lived and died in Montgomery/Williamsport, PA
on May 7, 1955. Does anyone know about my Grandfather?
