Looking for Jess Elmer Soper. 1920 Census records show he was born in Washington in 1889, and was a truck driver. He married Bessie Mae Kline in Washington and they were married at the time of the 1920 census. They were living with Bessie's parents, Hans and Bessie Bertilson, and her brother and his wife-Louis Burse and Elsie Kline. Bessie was born 11/13/1895 in Everett Washington. They had a daughter born in 1920, Marion Lucille. She was born in Washington. Old letters find that at some point, likely before Marion was born, the couple lived in Pendleton Oregon. Around 1925, Jess went to work for the railroad. A letter from the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen dated 9/17/26 states Jess was called back to work at La Grande Oregon but never showed up. Word has it he was working at Dunsmuir California. No one heard from him after 1925. His wife Bessie married again, to a William Schulte. Jess's mother might have had another marraige besides that to a Soper. One set of Marion's grandparents, appears to be on the paternal side, are Bodies-Jean and Cora. The other set are Bertilsons-Hans and Bessie H. Near as I can tell, Bessie H. was married previously to a Kline, might have been Joseph Louis.
Would like to know from which Soper line Jess comes, and more about this person that was my grandfather. Am quite interested in learning more about the Bodie connection as well.
