Thank you, very good point. My interest is in a John Sonafrank's family, who married my Greatgg-Aunt based upon the Maryland record below:

Frederick Co, Maryland

DESCENTS - Court Records from 1794 - 1837

There were many property owners who died without leaving a will; in many such cases the person was very young and many of his children were still minors. If the family was still able to maintain the property, they would continue to live there and go on with life. If, however, they were unable to maintain the land or one of the heirs wanted final settlement, the family would petition the court to appoint people to appraise the land and make equal distribution to the heirs. Usually, if a widow survived, one third was laid off for her dower and the balance then distributed amongst the remaining children. If the land could not be divided equally without loss, each heir in turn by age would be offered the property paying the remaining heirs their fair share. If all heirs refused the offer, it was then sold at public auction by the commissioners and the proceeds divided equally.

The following are abstracts of these such cases (forerunner of the Equity Court). They have been arranged alphabetically by the surname (as it appears in the records). The representatives are the heirs and are the children of the deceased unless otherwise noted.

-----------------------------
I am a descendent of Daniel Renner and would like to find out what happened to the Sonnafrank cousins, if any? It appeared as though John first wife Elizabeth Renner died and he remarried a Catherine Sprinkle for a previous Post entry about Jacob Sonifranks's family. No information if John and Elizabeth had children or not. Thanks, Byron
