Craig, you must have changed your email address, so I'm posting this message on Ancestry in hopes you get it.
It has been a while since we last connected, perhaps two or three years.
Just to refresh my memory, you and I are second cousins.
My grandmother was Florence (Soehnlin) Lorentzen.
I have managed, with the help of a guy in Germany, to locate the village in Baden where the Soehnlins originated.
I can't remember if I have shared this with you or not, but I don't believe so.
The village is Voerstetten, Amt Emmendingen, Baden.
Johann Georg SOEHNLIN was born in that village on 2 SEP 1778 and died there on 31 OCT 1817.
According to the contact in Germany, Johann Georg was a teacher, one of several in the family there.
He married Wilhelmina HAUG on 4 DEC 1803. She was born on 6 MAR 1784 and died 6 FEB 1859.
They had seven children.
For us, the most important child was the baby of the family, Wilhelm, who was born on 6 MAR 1817 in Voerstetten, Amt Emmendingen, Baden, just seven months before his father died. Wilhelm grew up and married Anna Maria ROTH on 8 MAR 1846. She was born on 29 NOV 1817.
I don't have the dates of their deaths. They had at least two children, one of whom, the first born, was Wilhelm Heinrich SOEHNLIN, born on 15 JAN 1836 in Bottingen, Baden. He was a citizen of Voerstetten and a master woodworker/joiner. He was the one who came to America in 1857 and settled in St. Louis where he died. I don't have that date, but I do know he married Caroline FOSSLER on 17 AUG 1857 at St. Marcus United Church of Christ in St. Louis. He and Caroline had seven children, and Henry George SOEHNLIN was Number 6, born 6 AUG 1871. He was our great-grandfather. Ida Mansfield was his wife.
Getting back to Johann Georg SOEHNLIN (born in 1778), his father was also named Johann Georg SOEHNLIN. The elder Johann Georg was a schoolmaster in Niederneiler, Baden.
Have you had any success with any more information on the SOEHNLINS after they arrived in this county?
