To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to you concerning my grandfather, Johann Sodec. He was born on Dec 23, 1886 in Radovici Slovenia. He emigrated to the US on Dec 23rd, 1910 with his cousin Marko Kostelic (37years old in 1910) aboard the steamship St. Louis, arriving on Ellis Island. It stated on the ships manifest that they were traveling to Allgeheny, Pennsylvania to stay with a friend of Marko. The next bit of information we have is that he was living in Dunfermline Illinois in 1925 and was working as a coal miner. Around 1930 he left Illinois for Bainbridge, Georgia (where I believe he purchased a farm) and then moved to Quincy, Florida where he met my grandmother, Mae Kelly, and they were married. They had 3 children; Josie, Joseph, and my father, John Sodec Jr. My grandmother sold the farm after my grandfather’s death, her name at that time was Mae Smith. Any information or advice which you could provide would be deeply appreciated. This is all the information which we have concerning him, except the fact that he had a brother.
Sincerely,
John Sodec III
