Frank R. Sochacki, 88, of Herminie, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. He was born Sept. 18, 1921, a son of the late Casimir and Mary Zakutney (Janov) Sochacki.
Frank served in the Army Air Forces during World War II, and achieved the rank of major in the Air Force Reserve following the war. Prior to his retirement, he was president and owner of General Nuclear Corp. in Hunker for more than 14 years and had more than 40 years of working in the Naval Nuclear industry. Frank was a member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church in Herminie, Altar Rosary Society, Sunshine Club and Holy Name Society. He was a member of Greensburg Country Club, Ride & Hunt Club in North Huntingdon, Jednota Lodge in Yukon, and Herminie SNPJ Lodge 87. Frank was an avid outdoorsman, and he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp. He was so proud of all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would always try to attend their activities, especially basketball games.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Florence "Flossie" (Balcerek) Sochacki, in August of this year, who was the love of his life and whom he missed dearly.
He was also preceded in death by two infant grandchildren, Chad Douglas and Scott Charles; five sisters, Mary Duzyk, Frances Bosnak, Helen Gioannini, Betty Serembo and Anna Yurichick; and three brothers, Peter Sochacki, Joseph Zakutney and John Zakutney.
Frank is survived by his two daughters, Bonnie L. Morgan, of Irwin,
and JoAnn Sebastiani, of Greensburg; a son, Thomas L. Sochacki and his wife, Karen, of New Stanton; eight grandchildren, Chad and his wife Jennifer, Jason and his wife Juliana, Thomas, Torrey, Franco, Romano, Kristie and Rob, Kari and her husband Bill; six great-grandchildren, Darian, Tristan, Addison, Brooke, Charles and Amelia; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, 724-446-7251. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, in Herminie, with Father John J. Harrold as celebrant. Interment with full military honors accorded by Greensburg VFW Post 33 Honor Guard will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
