Hello Bruce,

My Sophia SOBER, born in Hamilton Twp., Monroe Co., PA; married in 1851 a Philip FLYTE in Hamilton Twp.; I do not have a death date for her.

She did have a sister Sabina SOBER, born 25 Nov 1838 of Hamilton Twp., Monroe Co., PA; married a David HEFT. I do not have a marriage date for them and I do not have a death date for Sabina.

Their father was George Washington Sober Sr. They had a brother George Washington Sober Jr. who fought in the Civil War.

Does any of this sound familiar?
I recently saw your post of 2/3/2000 on Sobers Genealogy.
I have not visited the message boards for awhile as you can see. Our connection to the SOBERS family goes thru my
girlfriend's gggrandfather, HENRY EDWIN BERGER,of
Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. His second wife was SOBINA
SOBERS, his first wife was, ELIZABETH KLIENTOP. Henry
and Sobina had 5 children plus 2 from his first marriage. My
question is did your Sophia have a sister Sobina? We have
a couple of letters they wrote to each other during the Civil
War. We have not been able to figure out their relationship.
You e-mail me directly at: bnielson@iwon.com
Thank you in advance
Bruce Nielson

My grandfather who died years ago - lived in Trinidad WI - his father Ernest William Sobers hailed from Barbadoes. I need to find out if he is any relations to James Augustus and James Elverton. In my family the name William has been passed down to two generation. Any information will be quite a help.

Dear Laural,
I have just returned to genealogy after some time away and would like to be back in touch with fellow geneo's. I too am descended from "bn abt 1729" and would like the source of the "george". I have him well covered at the St Paul's Blue Church in Lehigh County as John Nuchtern/Sober and later in Northampton County. Much of my work is off the work of Sally Pryor from Washington. I would love to ehar from you and other researchers. I am descended from John George 1759, died in Leechburg, Westmoreland County.
Cheers form South Australia,
Robert

I thought I'd jump into this thread. I could be the "Mark" you're referring to. I was born in NYC in 1955. My mom and father divorced shortly afterwards, and my mom moved us to California, where I grew up. I only met my father once when I was about six years old. He was still living in NYC at the time. Let me know if I could be the "Mark" you're looking for.
There seems to be a large population in the NYC area. I have traced my name from:

James (?) Sobers Gr Gr Grandfather - married Alberta Green
Humbert Milton Sobers Gr Grandfather - " " Ala Edgehill
Elliott Sobers grandfather- " " Mary Jane Nance

if you can add to this infor please respond

Hello Bridget,

Peter B. Sober was the son of George Washington Sober Sr. & Sarah Marsh, aka. Sally, Salome Mersch. He was the youngest of their 13 children, born in Hamilton Twp., Monroe Co., Pennsylvania (I do not have a birth date for him). I have he died in 1863 - my aunt contended he died at Gettysburg, but that may not be so if you have documentation for Clear Creek, Virginia. He married Christina Flyte on 26 Dec 1851 in Hamilton, Monroe Co., Pennsylvania.
I have information and documentation of sources for this family. Peter did have a sister, Sophia (child #12), who married Philip Flyte on 25 Dec 1851. I believe we have a definite match.
I would be happy to share information with you. You may be able to fill in some blanks for me.
Thank you for responding to my post.
Laurel

I have his second wife as Elizabeth Catherine METZGER HOUSER, she was the widow of George HOUSER (her 1st husband).
Abraham did not have a son named Frederick, he did have 12 children.

Abraham's father was David MARSH ( MERSCH) Sr. born abt. 1730 in Germany, died April 1798 in Northampton Co., PA, buried at Zion Stone Church in Kreidersville, Northampton Co., PA. His wife was Elizabeth ----. They had 13 children, none of which were named Frederick. Abraham was his second son.

Is this the same line that you are researching? I do not have a Delos in my database.
Laurel
Hello Laurel

I saw your past posts and peter sobers is my ggggrandfather he was married to Christiana Flyte. Peter was killed in Clear Creek VA during the Civil War. It is my understanding that his father was George and his mother was Sally and he had a sister Sophie. Is this the same line and do you have the other siblings.

Thanks

Bridget
Hi Cousin Laurel,
Yes of course the previous correspondence comes slowly back to these aging neurons. It is good to be back in touch. I still do not see a “smoking gun” for the name George. The only references I have to a George is his son born 1759 who was a Rev war vet and came across to the West in about 1780. The constant reference to our 1729 bloke as Johannes tends to make me think he was a John and not a John something else. Does this make sense?
Robert
