Hello Robert, We last emailed 21 May 2002, I am glad to hear from you again. I had sent a gedcom to you and a register report for four genrerations of
SOBER(Nuchtern)/SORBER/SOBERS in May of 2002.
These are the source/notes I have on John George
SOBER, born about 1729; died about 1790:
BIRTH-DEATH-BURIED: John
SOBER, Born: ca 1720-1730; Died: 1790; Buried: Plainfield, PA, St. Peter's Church(according to church record). Married: Barbara
HELLER. Source: The Name SOBER; Mabel F. SOBER; self published 38 page soft cover booklet, 1965. Page 4. In possession of Laurel Ingram,
Sterling, IL. Noted: June 2004; L. Ingram.
!NAME: Wife Barbara (
SOBER) called Barbara Nuchtern in records of
Salem Church
Northampton County,
Penn. It appears that John
SOBER anglicized his name, and that (in German) he may have been
Johannes Nuchtern. See the records of
Dryland (Trinity) Church of Nazareth Twp., , PA, where it lists
Johannes & Barbara Nuchtern as parents of a child Catherine, who was born 15 Feb 1771 & Baptized 23 Jun 1771, then years later a Barbara Nuchtern was sponsor at the baptism of Susanna Andre, a know grandchild of 'Barbara
SOBER' (Susanna was daughter of Catherine (
SOBER) and Nicholas Andre.) In some church records, name Nuchter/ Nuchtern are used interchangeably in yrs. 1774, 1782, 1784, 1785, 1790, 1792,
Salem Union Church, Moorestown, , PA. In no instance are the surnames '
SOBER' (or variants) and Nuchtern in the same listing, except in two communicant lists which say Barbara Nuchtern or
SOBER (1784) and Barbara
SOBER or Nuchtern 1785
Salem Church. Source: Darlene

!WILL: Copy of Will in possession of descendant, Darlene
Robison Rynearson.
Will is dated 1 Aug. 1786 and was probated in 1790.
To confirm the date of death of 1790, the reference of 'The Name Sober'; by Mabel F. Sober, of Tarentum, Penn..1965 is used. She said she talked with a great many of John and Barbara
SOBER descendants, and she gives the date of 1790 as a death date on a family group sheet. Buried at the St. Peters Church Cemetery, but no stone found.

There is another member of the family..A brother to this John George..by the name of Jacob..born abt 1720, Married to Maria
Angelica. The brother Jacob's Will was found by the Institute of Family Researchers, Inc. and the name here also appears with spelling in several ways..SORRER,

!NOTES: Birth/Christening Record of an additional child,
Ludwig, was located in the Emmanuel Petersville Church (Moore Township). His date of Birth (1769) indicates that the child Barbara was born prior to 1769. It would have been hightly unusual for Mother Maria Barbara to have had a child after 1769 (She was then age 46 according to her burial record.) The child
Ludwig was sponsored by
Ludwig HELLER & Margaret.
Search of
HELLER genealogy can not tie in the name of
HELLER to Barbara. Not found is connection, especially with the
HELLER Reaper saying No relation!
(Ludwig
HELLER came here in 1753 usual age of 100years and 100 days. (There is a picture of him in the book). Source: Darlene
