These are notes (not comprehensive, by any means) on a William Snead or Sneed who was born in 1805 and lived in Washington Co., Georgia. It's possible his mother was named Sarah.

A Sarah Snead is on the 1820 census in Washington Co. as head of her household, with a male in the household whose age would match that of William. She continues on the Washington census in 1830.

In the 1827 lottery, a Wm. Snead of Washington Co. drew lot 220, dist. 23, in Lee Co. The grant was registered 12 March 1832 (LDS film 519044). The grant contains no information about what William Sneed did with this land. Because the Lee Co. records have burned for the period before 1858, it is difficult to trace what became of this land.

11 Feb. 1830: William married Ann Speight, Washington Co.

1830 census, Washington Co., GA, he and wife both b. 1801-1810, and 2 whites aged 1781-1810 are in household.

1830 tax list, Washington: William is taxed in Hurst’s dist. for 150 acres in Coweta, 105 acres in Troup, 137 acres in Lee.

1832: William of Robertson's dist. in Washington Co. draws lot 1192, dist. 16, in Cass Co.

27 Aug. 1834, the "Union Recorder" of Milledgeville says that three slaves had been levied on as property of William Orr, to executions of fi fas in favor of William Sneed vs. William Orr, John Harden, Silas Floyd, and Jonathan Lyon.

1835: William is on the grand jury of Washington Co. superior court for March term.

1836: William is in Wood’s dist., Washington tax list.

1837 and 1838: William is taxed for a shop in Talbotton, Washington Co., in Wood’s dist, and in 1838 for land in Coweta. He continues to appear on the tax list in Washington until at least 1851.

1839: William ran on the Union Democratic ticket for tax collector of Washington Co.

1840 census, Washington Co: both William and his wife are born 1801-1810.

The William Sneed of Washington Co. appears in the inferior ct. minutes of the county in Jan. 1844 (Bk. A 26), Sept. 1854 (ibid. 171), Jan. 1856 (Bk. B 86), Oct. 1856 (Bk. A 196), Jan. 1859 (Bk. B 142), Jan. 1863 (ibid., 198), March 1865 (ibid. 257), March 1866 (ibid. 260), July 1866 (when court minutes say he is authorized to continue issuing corn to the destitute families of the county (ibid. 289-90), and Oct. 1866 (ibid. 310). This (or these) WS are obviously not the WS who went to Randolph Co.
