I have Snaer ancestors in New Orleans throughout the 19th century.
Francois had two wives Marie Rochefort (d: 1838) and Anne Emirene Beluche(d: 1882). By each he had several children.
I would like to correspond with any Snaer family with roots in New Orleans.

Wineda,
I would be happy to share information on the SNAERs of New Orleans. But it would help if you could give me some names of your SNAER ancestors so that I can focus on your family.
You can reply direct to me at larryn@cwo.com .

Demitirus! How wonderful to see your post. I've seen your name on the web for a while in relation to your sports career, but I don't know where you fit into the Snaer family. I have a lot of information on the Snaers in New Orleans. Many of them are in California now. I live in the Sacramento area. Please reply to my personal e-mail address at larry_niekamp@yahoo.com. If you give me you Snaer grandparents' names and any names further back, I should be able to let you know how we are all related.
Thanks again for writing.

Hello, Eric. It's good to see you're interested in the Snaer family. They imigrated to New Orleans (via Cuba) from Saint-Domingue (present day Haiti) in 1809. They were considered to be free people of color. There were two sons in that family, Jean Baptiste and Francois. I have the children of Jean Baptiste but nothing more. I have alot more on Francois's family. He was married to Marie Rochefort and had several children, only one of whom married and had children. This was Samuel who was an accomplished musician in New Orleans. After Marie died, Francois married Anne Emirene Beluche, and they had several children.

I am descended from the second marriage. I have several generations in each "family." Since you asked about the blood mix, I will tell you that the generally the descendants of Francois and Marie through Samuel today consider themselves African-American. The descendants of the second marriage today generally consider themselves white. My grandfather is listed in his birth certificate in New Orleans as "colored" but he and his brothers and sisters were considered white once they moved to California.

If you'd like to, please send me an e-mail outside of this board to larryn@cwo.com. If you give me the names of your parents and grandparents, I can see if my lists include them.

BTW, I live in California near Sacramento.
