Hi -- It could also be Smoker, the o with an umlaut which my computer will not allow me to insert.
The reason I say this is because I am a Schmucker (Lots of John Schmuckers in the line) but in the early documents, the name was spelled Smooker, trying to replicate the 'umlaut o' sound.
In the area of Pennsylvania where my ancestors ended up, Somerset Co., they still pronounce the name Smooker, even though it is spelled Schmucker. Oddly (to me) descendants of those same families who migrated to the big city of Pittsburgh pronounce their name Schmucker, with a u sound like butter.
