John Wesley Carter (1882-1965) and Sarah Emma Smock (1892-1963). I have the Smock line. Nothing on Carter. Emma Smock was daughter of W Schooling Smock (1864-1915) and Malinda Wayne. Schooling's parents were Dr Samuel Brent Smock (1835-1897) and Sarah E Smock (1837-1886) cousins. His father was William Smock (1798-1861) and his mother was Elizabeth C Buckler (1804-1880). Her father was John M Smock and her mother was Celia Buckler (aunt and niece to one another) These are all Kentucky Smocks. In addition to Samuel B Smock, William and Elizabeth had 8 other kids, I think. One of them, Henry Hubbard Smock, was my gg grandfather and he and his wife moved from Kentucky to Missouri in 1854. One other brother, Tolbert Smock, also moved to Missouri. The others stayed in Kentucky. Samuel B was the oldest son in Kentucky when William died in 1861. The Smocks moved to Kentucky before the Revolutionary War following Squire Boone (Daniel's brother) into the wilderness. They came from Pennsylvania and before that from New Jersey and before that from New Amsterdam (now NY). They were Dutch. The original Smock Dutch immigrant arrived in 1654 and was among the first generation of Dutch to establish a foothold in the New World. Cindy Smock
