LAKE GENEVA, WIS. - Thomas Henry Smith, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015.
He was born in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) and was the fifth of 10 children born to William A. and Grace G. Smith (Eyster).
He graduated from Boardman High School in 1948. He then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1953.
In 1960, he started a 30-year career with the Allstate Insurance Company in Northbrook, Illinois. He retired in 1990 as an assistant vice president.
“Tom” enjoyed travel, golf and had a love for aviation. He supported the the Boys and Girls Club, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, local food pantries and Meals on Wheels.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Catherine L. Smith (VanMeter); his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas G. and Tamara L. Smith of Youngstown; his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie J. and Donald C. Jackson of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; his stepson and daughter-in-law, John W. and Janet M. Eubanks of Augusta, Mo.; his stepson, Richard C. Eubanks of Acworth, Ga.; his son and daughter–in-law, Brian D. and Edna L. Smith, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; his daughter and son-in-law, Michele M. and Garry J. Ballek of Huntley, Ill.; his son, Christopher A. Smith of Boardman, Ohio; and stepson Thomas B. Eubanks of New York.
He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Carroll D. and Marilynn Smith of Youngstown; his brother and sister-in-law, Howard P. and Carol S. Smith of Elkhorn, Neb.; his brother and sister-in-law, Donald J. and Carol M. Smith of Santa Ana, California; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara J. and Francis (Joe) Carothers of Boardman; his brother and sister-in-law, John M. and Shaun M. Smith of Santa Ana, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn J. (Sebaugh) Smith of Mundelein, Ill.; his father and mother, William A. and Grace G. (Eyster) Smith ; his sister, Wilma A. Smith of Youngstown; his brother, William A. Smith of Lincolnwood, Illinois; his sister ,Helen L. Turnbull (Smith) of Poland, Ohio; and his sister, Annabelle G. (Smith) Yeaney of Mayport, Pa.
Visitation was held Aug. 23, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Toynton Funeral Home, 328 Kenosha St., Walworth, Wis. There will be a visitation at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 117 Dewey St., Fontana, Wis. at 10 a.m. followed by Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in New Richmond, Wis., on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
