If you decide to have your DNA tested, my 5th cousin(also a descendent of our Thompson Smith) and I have tested on Family Tree DNA as R1b -L21 which is most likely southern or lowland Scotland. My 5th cousin and I match 63 out of 67 markers at 10 generations. The DNA testing does not do the paperwork, but it can confirm or refute suspicions. If you decide to test, please share the results.
