I believe you will find your Andrew J. and Frances Smith living in Analy, Sonoma, California on the 1870 census. Frances must have died between 1870 and 1880, because Andrew is a widower on the 1880 census San Benito, San Benito, CA.
I believe he died 11/9/1918 in San Benito California, age 86. Certificate No. 48002.
