Tracy,

Saw your posting and am hoping that you will be able to give us a lead to our brick wall.

There is a group of family in Faquier Co., Va. that migrated there from Md. The Smallwood and Cox families came from Charles Co., Md.
It appears the the Mc Coy family line came from Fredrick Co., Md. These three families had a lot of dealings together there in Faquier Co., Va. with the Dillie - Dilly - Dilley family. It is believed that the Dilly family came from Md. also but we can not find them in Faquier Co., Va. before 1789 nor in Md. as yet.

Since you are familiar with research in Md., would you be able to give me information on where to go to search for records to fit the time frame of 1750 to 1800 in Frederick, Charles and Carrol Cos. Md. Any ideas or suggestions woul be greatly appreciated.

Joseph Dilly witness the will of John Smallwood Cox in Faquier Co., Va. I believe in 1802.

Beth

I am also a descendent of Col. James Smallwood (born in 1639 in Middlewich, England).
I am looking to share info on the Smallwood line.
My family line runs as follows:

Hello, I am also a descendant of James Smallwood. My line goes like this: James Smallwood(1639-1714), then James(1668-1723), then William(1710-1768),who btw moved to North Carolina, after him is William(1745-1809), then John(1774-1821) then Jesse(1821-1895), then Elijah(1842-1920), then William(1876-1933 or 1959). I am having a little trouble with the last one. This William Smallwood was my grandmother's father. Her name was Mary and she married Dillard Couch.
Whew! Thanks! Vickie, at vabird1@cinci.rr.com

Hi
I am Robert David Smallwood.
I have been doing research on the Smallwood genelogy.
My great grand father Thomas N. Smallwood born
abt 1835 in Georgia.
I think his father was Wilkinson Smallwood.
The only information I can find on Wilkinson was his
marrage to Emily Combs in Wilkes co GA..
I have seen several web sites on the internet that list
Wilkinson's father William, his father Elisha, his
fa William, his fa james His father col james Smallwood
and on back to Edward 1525.
Does anyone have any proof, ie wills or what ever the person
that listed all this on the internet got the info from?
I have never seen Wilkinson on any census. There is another
Wilkinson Smallwood born in KY and married Jane Hamilton in Hall Co GA a couple years after the one in Wilkes co
married Emily. Could they have the same Wilkinson??
Thanks

Hello -
I am related to Col James Smallwood, thru Sarah Smallwood, who married Thomas Robey, and Thomas Smallwood who married Alice (last name unknown) I have Col James Smallwood birth as 1639, place Middlewich, Cheshire, , England. Would you have a picture of Col. James Smallwood that you could perhaps put online or email me. I served in the military 20 yrs., I am interested in my ancestors and those who have served, and their history.

Thank you
Sharon

Hi Sharon, I, too, am a Maryland Smallwood descendent and there are a lot of us out there and some with missing links. On Family Tree Maker there is a Smallwood DNA test that has been going on which shows a lot of DNA connections. It does follow the direct male line and I think you may be interested in looking at it especially if you have a living male Smallwood in your family. My cousin took the test and it links our line to Col. James Smallwood.
