Slyder, Peter, Pvt Co E; mustered Sep 13, 1861; discharged Oct 13, 1864; born Nov 23, 1834; died Oct 2, 1908; a painter from Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County; 5' 7", sandy hair, blue eyes; captured at the battle of Carter's Woods; spent the last 8 months of his military service in hospitals suffering from diarrhea; listed Ann Slyder as next of kin; married Mary Ellen Stroup July 11, 1867; children: Wilbur (b. 07/14/68), Merrill (b. 04/21/70), and Jennie (b. 05/17/80); moved to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in 1866, living there until 1878 and still later in the soldiers' home in Erie, Pennsylvania
