Dear Mrs . Shirley Mosteller,
I am currently doing some family research for Gerri ("Geraldine") Sluder. Here is what I found:
1) Johann Schlueter arrived at the port of Philadelphia/Pennsylvania on November 3, 1752 on board of the sailing ship "Queen of Denmark" from Hamburg/Germany but last from Cowes/England. His registered name in the immigration record is: Johann Schlueter (with Umlaut).
2) Henry Sluder arrived at the port of Philadelphia/Pennsylvania on September 14, 1751 on board of the sailing ship "Duke of Bedford" from Rotterdam/Netherlands but last from Portsmouth/England. His registered name in the immigration records is Henry Shloder or Schloder. Henry signed with an "X", since he could not write. The names were registered by clerks as they heard/understood the names.
3) I have no record information, which states that Henry Shloder or Schloder was the son of Johann Schlueter (with Umlaut).
4) I have no record information, which states from where in Europe or Germany these two immigrants came.
The facts that 1) these two immigrants travelled separately by ship and year to the same destination and that Henry Shloder or Schloder did not mention Johann Schlueter at all during his life in Pennsylvania and later in North Carolina, suggests no son-father relationship exists.
If you have any more information on this, please share with me. We all will be for family research in Germany mid May 2015.
Best regards,
Heinz Averbeck
