I purchased what may be the original birth and baptismal certificate of John Adam Schlott/Sloat yesterday at my local Oregon state Goodwill store. The hand tinted certificate is framed and I hesitate to remove it for further inspection but it is definitely old and has wrinkle lines which show behind the glass. It measures app. 12" x 16". There are two smallish tears which appear to have been mended by some kind of tape which has not yellowed.
The verbiage reads:
Certificate of Birth and Baptism
To these two parents, as "Isaac Schlott" and his wife "Catherine" a daughter of "Adam Essig" was born a "Son" on the "30" day of "March" in the year of our Lord "1855" This child was born in "Canton township" in "Stark" County, in the State of "Ohio" in North America, was baptized on the "17" day of "May" 18"55", by the Rev. "J. T. Fast" (my note - unsure of name) and received the name "John Adam"
Witnesses present at the Act of Baptism. "The Parents"
All the words seen here in parentheses are handwritten by whoever filled out the certificate.
I would like to see this certificate go to a direct descendant of John Adam Sloat, if one can be found, for my purchase cost of $8 plus shipping cost of the certificate. I can also take a photograph and email a picture to any family member who would like to see this certificate.
