Hi, I have been studying David Sluss quite a bit these last few days. He is my Maternal Great Grandfather. He was a farmer, and a raftsman/logger some of the time and there is a great story I coulds send you about him and some of the Sexton's and Osborns sending 500+ logs down the Clinch to Clinchport. He is a man of mystery, to be sure. My records indicated that he married Harriet in 1877. He and Harriet had Emory Franklin Sluss in Jan of 1879, However He was remmarried in 1880 to a woman named Leona. My Grandmother who was just shy of 93 and "with it" to the end told me that Leona's full name was Leona Stone Sluss. I have been unble to identify her in the many Sluss's of the area. I am working on that now. The two of them had 7 children. Martha "Allie", James "Jim", David, Newton, Lewis, Hattie, and Lillie "Lakie". Newton and Lewis died together while working on the big tunnel, (I have it named maybe near Big Stone Gap?) The tunnel collapsed and they both died. Hattie died young. I have info on the rest. David and his son James did something very wrong right around the turn of the century and both did jail time for it. When he was released it seems Leona didn't want him back or perhaps she was dead so he lived with his sister's family. You mentioned nephew, which one? Well, that should give you someof the info I have, for now. Please email me at shirleyijest@comcast.net and we can exchange information. My Grandmother left me a notebook that has genealogical info in it and I'm going through it now. She just passed away in Oct. Her hand written notes have provided a ton of info that isn't anywhere else. She also speaks of thier life and neighbors growing up in Dungannon in the 20's. I really hope to hear from you. Linda
