Hello: I have just come across an old family album that contains a few pictures of Harold Slaymaker with the notation that he was a career diplomat. One of the photos was from a photographer from Houston, Texas - which would lead me to believe it is an official photo.
There is apparently a connection with the Woodruff side of my family. I am not sure of the dates but I would presume that they are from the 1930s or 40s.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Owen

In an old family album there is a photo marked "Prof. Slaymaker". He was a friend of the family, not a relative. The other photos are mainly Wisconsin family members. I have found a Samuel Slaymaker who died in Beloit, Rock Co., Wis., a Stephen C.Slaymaker b. 1835 Penn., lived in Rock Co. in 1870, and a Stephen Slaymaker living in Janesville, Wis. in 1909, and another Stephen C. Slaymaker lving in Beloit in 1951. Are any of these your relatives?

Margaret Slaymaker

I know of a Margaret Elliot Slaymaker, older sister to Frank Slaymaker the person of interest in below article. If you can assist the Philly PD in this matter please do. A slain cop deserves to have family there.

By Damon Williams
The Philadelphia Daily News
PHILADELPHIA — Little is known about Police Officer Frank Slaymaker.
And unfortunately for Chief Inspector James Tiano and his small but dedicated staff, even less is known about Slaymaker's family.

The Police Department plans to honor the life and heroism of Slaymaker — who was killed in the line of duty on June 11, 1906 — with a plaque dedication in June. But, so far, no members of his family have been found to attend the dedication.
"We are searching for the family, but it's been such a long time" since Slaymaker was killed, said Tiano — who, usually with Capt. Dennis Gallagher, visits surviving relatives of fallen officers before a plaque ceremony. "But we did one for an officer killed in 1919, and he had a big family there."
According to Tiano, Slaymaker was killed when he apprehended a man and a woman who had robbed a Chinese restaurant.
The man shot Slaymaker, but the officer was still able to hold the suspects until assisting officers arrived.
Slaymaker died 10 days later.
"This [effort] is very important, because these are our extended families," Gallagher said.
"Injured or slain, we always consider them family. But we didn't have a single piece of record on his family."
Both the fire and police departments recognize fallen comrades through the plaque program, and it doesn't matter when the honoree died.
Police officials said that records of Slaymaker's family may have been lost.
"The goal is, if there are any Slaymaker relatives — and I'm sure there are - to contact us," said Tiano.
"We really want and need for his family to be there."
For details on the search for Slaymaker's family, or to provide information, call Tiano at 215-685-3655.
Philly Police seek kin of Frank Slaymaker a cop slain in 1906

Philly seeks kin of cop slain in 1906

Copyright 2008 The Philadelphia Daily News
My maiden name is Sleamaker. According to my parents, it was originally Schleimacher and Anglisized to American spellings. According to census records etc., there have been and are several different spellings. The Sleamaker spelling came in existance when my great grandmother migrated from Saline Co., Illinois to western Kentucky.I have been able to conclusively trace my ancestors to my great great grandfather who lived in Montgomery Co., N. Carolina. His children migrated to southern Illinois.I have a most interesting book on the Slaymaker fsmily of Pennsylvania but have not been able to verify our relation to this branch but evidence seems to point to the fact that our branch just could be a part of this family.

I am not directly related to any Slaymakers, but in my database I happen to have a very distant connection to just one of them by marriage. That one Slaymaker in my database is named William Henry Slaymaker, born 4 March 1916, and died July 1977, and he married a Miss E. Laird, daughter of Andrew C. and Edith (McCluer) Laird. Miss Laird might have been born in Hinds County, Mississippi, since her parents were married there, and her brother, Wilson McCluer Laird, was born there.

That's all the information I have to offer. Good luck to you on your research.

We have heard a story about 3 brothers who came here from Germany.
We have traced back as follows:
Harold Lee 7/25/74 > son of
Timothy Lee 7/18/51, one of 8 children (3 passed away very young) Frank, Robert, Etta, Christine > son of
Frank Lee 1919 - 1972 married Marie Harris both from Grand Rapids Michigan > son of
Franklin Lee, dates unknown
Also told of Slaymaker House in Philladelphia!

If you can help, that would be great!
Thank you, Harold and Family
We are a Slaymaker family that is unclear of the details of our lineage... However, what we have is Harold Lee Slaymaker 7/25/74, son of Timothy Lee Slaymaker 7/18/51, son of Frank Lee Slaymaker 1919, son of Franklin Lee Slaymaker info unknown.....
We were also told that Tims brother Robert Lee Slaymaker has detailed info concerning family history, but we are not in contact with him! Possibly residing in Arkansas. Also told possible connection to the Slaymaker House in Philladelphia. Hit a roadblock at this point!
Thank you for your help!!!!!!!

Dear Harold,
my name is Margaret and I have been researching the Slaymaker history for 8 years. I have started from Henry Slaymaker born 1734 in his direct line to present day. Do you know who you are a descendant of? The first Maithias Slaymaker from Germany who came to Lancaster County. His children was Laurance, Margaret, Maithias 2nd, Henry,John,Daniel and Barbara. If you need info will try to help you.
Take care, Margaret

Please contact me if you’re happy to share information.

Thank you
