Thank you for responding, but I do have this book. However, this is one of the "Slawson lines" that, for some reason was omitted. My mother who was born in 1933 and is in the book. Great book even with some of the problems. Thanks. Darlene

There is a book that you can buy about the Slawsons. It begins with George in 1637 who jumped ship and swam to Plymouth to my father's generation. My dad was born in 1925. The title of the book is called "The Slason Slauson Slawson Slosson Family" and was compiled by George C. Slawson. According to this George, all Slawsons, regardless of spelling, are related to the 1637 George so we are all cousins. The book is our collective family tree. You can view it on-line and look for Ebenezer and Lydia before you purchase the book. Best of luck.
Kathy Slawson Osborne

Trying to establish proof of birth and lineage for Henry Slawson, son of Samuel and Hannah Smith of Poundridge,NY

Henry 29 Dec 789 does not appear in any records that I have located. Everyone seems to use the book by George Slawson as the standard. Can anyone direct me elsewhere? I don't see the family in the records of The Church of Christ in Salem, but that is where they likely worshipped. Hannah and Samuel were married in South Salem in 1784. Thanks

Hello there, don't faint. I just noticed your post. My info is from Find a Grave: Ebenezer died in 182 in Yates Co. NY. He married Lydia born 14 Jun1762 died 20 Jan 1841. They had one son, Ebenezer 17 Aug 1795 born in Schenectady Co and died 18 Aug 1879 Hanover, ChautauquaCo NY Ebenezer was a favorite name with the Slawsons. I don't have proof of his father.

I am hoping you might know something of Samuel and Hannah Slawson of Poundridge, NY. I can't find any proof of the birth of their children, esp Henry 1789. In 1800 the family moved to Duanesburg and the parents died in 1803 and 1804 leaving young children. Henry was 14 years old. Uncle Ebenezer came up to handle the land sale but that is the only record I can find

Hi Peter
I thought you may have picked the record up since your earlier post was 2009, if I recall correctly. Hope your Slawson research is going well. Some people collect stamps, others postcards, I collect Slawsons then try to connect them up. Have some success but more puzzles than I care to admit. Best of luck in your endeavors, feel free to enquire if you have a brick wall, you just never know?

Roy

Roy,

Many thanks for the message. The SLAWSON-PRICE marriage turned up on "Ancestry" a couple of years ago as part of their London records, much to my surprise! Brixton was a Parish I had never considered searching, and the entry wasn't on the Mormon IGI, so it's understandable how it eluded me and Mom for over 30 years -- it was just a shame she didn't live long enough to see the mystery solved!
It does show you that not everything is indexed yet, even in places like London.

Peter
I think there may be the marriage for John & Mary. The date fits and there is a witness, Elizabeth Price, that gives a link. Marriage St. Matthew's Church, Brixton, Surrey, England 25 Sep 1827. Witnesses: Stephen William Thomas and Elizabeth Price.

Stupidly I did not record the source but it must be available on internet since I am an "armchair" family history. chaser.

Roy

SLAWSON NORTHAMPTON/BILLESDON?

"It is great to hear from someone descended from the Billesdon SLAWSONs after all these years -- contacts from my direct branch have been very few!
The grandmother of my late mother Bea was Mary Jane SLAWSON, born 1855 in Billesdon, 2nd of 9 children of William SLAWSON (1828-1884) & Elizabeth FOX. William and your Alfred were brothers -- 2nd & 8th of 10 children of William SLAWSON (1797-1875) & Jane TYERS. As I`m sure you know, Alfred gave the name Tyers to 5 of his children, so Jane must have been well loved. William was the oldest of 10 children of Richard SLAWSON (1772-1842) & Ann THORP. Richard was again the oldest of 5 of William SLAWSON (birth & death dates unknown) & Ann TOON. And William was the youngest child of yet another William SLAWSON (died 1736) & Elizabeth ALLEN, who were married 11 Oct 1727 at Kibworth Beauchamp.
The origins of William (married 1727) are still uncertain after 30 years of research! Mom liked to think he was connected to earlier SLAWSON families in Carlton Curlieu, but there is no real evidence for it -- we simply have never found a likely William being baptised anywhere around 1700."

I understand the SLAWSON born around 1700 might be from or connected here to the Northampton Slawsons? David Wilde

How can I help you? I live Miss., have extensive history on Slawson (Slauson etc since 16 different spellings), have George Slawson book mentioned to you. Researched my line to 1500s. I am not a pro researcher but have lots info. If you send me anything please tell much as you know, such as year or timeframe, any other family members and geographics etc. also have my lineage ancestry.com.
Yes 2 brothers arrived early America, one appears to have died. Your lineage could very well trace back to then. George Slawson bCkpaced across US during depression, actually visited my forefathers in Miss. I talked to him on phone in calif 1970 ish.

Hullo david stock. Yes we were photographed in Altringham and I still have the picture taken in 1960s on one of my numerous websites(www.artmajeur.com/davidwilde). I look at this photo from time to time to recall those interesting days spent with my mother's twin brother at 10 derby street which he bought at ahout this time. He lived in australia again (twice I remember) but Ruby gor really sick so they had to sell their newly bought land in 'peran' (?) just outside of melbourne and then returned to England, Leicester where Jim worked at the Leicester Museum on Pocklingtons Walk. She passed away shortly after that and then in 1987/8 my mother was visiting my sister in the USA when he suddenly got sick. It was cancer of the throat and just shortly after her return to Leicester he passed away.

I now live in New Mexico, southwest USA and try to write and sometime teach. I just retired and am keeping busy authoring and planning to travel the world...

Its great to get in touch after this time david. Nice to hear from you. I was in canada twice travelling from the UK to New Mexico the long way! By the way you will find Jim's portraits and drawings/paintings on this webpage (above).

My website are on facebook and email is wilde@unm.edu (University new mexico)

Cheers.
Phebe M (Slason?) Holman Gage (1813-1876)

Hello! I'm seeking information on Phebe M. (Slason?) Holman Gage.

She was born in 1813 in Vermont, parents unknown.

Phebe M. HOLMAN can be found residing with Franklin and Patience (Gage) Slason in Sudbury, Rutland, Vermont on the 1850 US Federal Census. Her daughter, Phebe J. SLASON is also residing with this family. Thomas and Eunice (Stephens) Gage, who I believe are the parents of Patience, are next door neighbors found on the same page. It's also possible they were the parents of the Mr. Gage who married Phebe M Holman. For certain, though, this Gage family is related in some fashion.

The only other record I have of Phebe is of her death. Her gravestone can be found in Vesta Cemetery in Johnson County, Nebraska. On one side, the gravestone reads the following:
HOWARD
Phebe J Holman <-- This is Phebe J Slason found on the 1850 census
Wife of J.T. Howard
1844-1887
George Irving
1864-1876
Agnes
1873-1875
On the other side, the gravestone reads:
GRANDMOTHERS
Phebe M GAGE <-- This is Phebe M Holman found on the 1850 census
1813-1876
Agnes T Howard
1811-1884

Phebe M Gage [Phebe M Holman Gage] and Agnes T Howard [Agnes Todd (Clark) Howard] were the grandmothers of George Irving Howard and Agnes Howard found on that gravestone. Agnes T Howard was the mother of J.T. Howard [John Todd Howard].

To add to the confusion, Phebe M Gage's daughter, Phebe J Slason, was recorded as Jane HOLMAN in her marriage to John HOWARD. They were married Aug 29, 1863 in Oswego, Kendall, Illinois, USA.

I'm looking for 1860 records for mother and daughter, Phebe M Holman and Phebe J Slason/Holman. They may have resided near Squaw Grove, De Kalb, Illinois, as that is where John T Howard can be found.

I'm also looking for 1870 records for Phebe M Holman/Gage. She may have lived in Johnson County, Nebraska by this time. Her daughter and son-in-law lived in Sterling, Johnson, Nebraska.

Phebe Jane (Holman) Howard's son Harlos was born in Minnesota on 17 Aug 1865, so it's also possible that 1865 Minnesota state census records could be found for Phebe J Howard and Phebe M Holman/Gage.

I know that Phebe M Gage is *not* the same Phebe Gage found in Grafton County, NH in 1860 and Plato, Ill. in 1870, as this Phebe Gage 1813-1885 was buried next to Rebecca and in the same lot as Hannah (found in 1860) at Udina Cemetery in Udina, Kane, Illinois.

In summary, here's what I'm hoping to find:
• 1860 US Fed Census for Phebe M Holman/Gage and for Phebe J Slason/Holman
• 1865 Minnesota State Census for Phebe M Holman/Gage and for Phebe J Howard.
• 1870 US Fed Census for Phebe M Holman/Gage, probably in Johnson County, Nebraska
• An explanation for why the daughter had the surname Slason in 1850 but Holman when she got married.

I wonder if perhaps Phebe M Holman Gage was Slason by birth and had Phebe J out of wedlock, then married a Mr. Holman. (The best possible match as a husband I can find is a Liutenant Holman found in Rutland County, Vermont records.) My theory is that Phebe J would have then used the maiden name of Holman to legitimize her birth before marrying John Todd Howard, who was a devout member of the M.E. Church since his teenage years.

What I wonder especially is why Phebe M and her daughter can be found residing with Franklin and Patience Gage in 1850. Was Franklin her brother, or was Patience her sister? Did Phebe M later marry into Patience's family? There are records of a Phebe M Slason as Franklin's sister, however she was born in 1828 and as far as I can tell, married Silas W Howard and died in Hubbardton, VT in 1898.

Linda , my name is Bev Watson. Quite interesting that we have a lot of the same place names in our Slawson families. I will be caught up with you in age a few years down the road. This same incident with place names rings true with other lines in my family as well. All of our Slawsons started out in New York . Ours are the only ones who left and migrated to IN. The town I grew up in had for judge -My great uncle, Blacksmith-grt grandfather, realator grt uncle and grandfather, 15 school teachers grandparents, aunts uncles and cousins. postal employees, doctor uncle, mayor, butcher grt uncle,farmers-grt uncles, concert pianist, insurance co grt uncles and the founder of the town plus a cousin - supreme court justice.
Interesting. I've got 2 Seth Slawsons, uncle & nephew, and probably neither matches yours. My direct line ancestor is Seth Holcomb Slawson (1850-1926) s/o Jesse D & Rachel Fuller Chase Slawson, who were in NY before they moved west to IL, Whiteside Co. This Seth married Emma Jane Patch in 1871 in Whiteside Co. They moved on to Nebraska and Kansas.

The uncle is Seth Slawson b c1810 "probably" at Palentine, Montgomery Co NY, died in Chicago; married to Matilda XX, about whom I know nothing, in Oneida Co NY. This Seth is s/o David & Addie Kinney Slawson.

My Seth H is his nephew, and we decorate his his wife's graves on Memorial Days, in Jefferson Co KS.

In reply to Lyn Seaburg:
The "The Slason-Slauson-Slawson-Slosson Family" compiled by George C Slawson, copyright 1946 is one of the books that Ancestry.com has. It popped up when I added an old Slawson name to my tree. The book did not pop up for every old name that I added.

My late m-i-law was related to Aaron. He seems to have moved away from genealogy for the moment. It was finding his post on this board that helped me so much when I started on Slawson.

I, too, am a descendant of George Slawson. My mother was a Slosson, so I have quite a list. I do have a website: dkdonovan.com. Please check out my Slawson lines and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Hello,
I just came across a message from 2004,about the name Slawson. As a child we had a Jim Slawson living with us as a batchelor in the later part of 1950's. My parents owned a house in Fulham,on Parsons Green road, and jim used to rent a room from us.

After leaving London and moved to Epsom,Jim would come and visit. I remember visiting Jim in Altringham just outside Manchester
I stayed there during summer holidays, also with another chap named David I think he was going into the forces!!

Jim married Ruby I think that was her name, and moved to Australia, that was the last contact I had with Jim untill a visit to the UK
sometime in the 80's,when we spoke on the phone. I am sure this is one and the same as mentioned in your message.

I live in Canada now and have been for over 35 years. If Jim ever spoke of us we are the Stock Family,my mother Elizabeth and father Albert, both now passed on.
Hope you get this message. I remember him well. very quiet man

Sincerely

David Stock
