Judy, I hope you are still using this site. Your message dates back a while but I have just in the last year or so really gotten into serious ancestry tracing. I really had not been able to substantiate (to my satisfaction) the Hyde County NC Slade connection. I can accurately trace Samuel Slade b. about 1770 in "NC" but don't know where. Samuel is then listed in a 1790 census as living in Cheraw District SC. In 1804, his son, my 2X great-grandfather, Hezekiah was born on the Big Pee Dee River, presumably in SC. On Nov. 26, 1808, Samuel Slade applied for a passport through the Creek Nations to the territory of MS. I'm pretty sure that my Samuel was in fact a part of the Hyde County NC family but would love to know if there is any sort of "official" record that would verify.
