He is survived by Ellen (Helen), his bride and best friend of nearly 49 years; son Craig and daughter-in-law Pam, of San Diego; son Dale and daughter-in-law Heidi of San Diego; son Darrell of San Diego; 5 grandchildren, and two brothers, Glenn and Dan of Pekin, Ill. Bob was a spark of life - always quick with a joke, a smile, and a helping hand to anyone. Born in Pekin, Ill. to George and Marie Slabaugh, he grew up there, graduating in the Pekin Community High, class of 1943. Bob served our country from 1942 through 1945 in WWII as a Naval electrician aboard the tanker/ support ship Porcupine. He earned his B.A. from University of Colorado in 1953. After returning to Illinois, he fell in love with Ellen Lyndoll Noreuil, whom he married June 25, 1955. Bob earned his teaching credential in 1955, teaching high school in Tonica and Washington, Ill. for 5 years. Moving to California in 1960, he taught in La Habra, Calif. for 1 year before his 26 year role as a well-respected science teacher at La Mesa Junior High. Bob and Helen have lovingly devoted their lives to their whole family. Bob was a gentle man who was loved by all who met him. His passing due to Parkinson ' s and associated diseases leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. We will miss his jovial, warm spirit and his recitation of his favorite phrase "God Bless Our Happy Home." Through Bob, our homes were truly both happy and blessed.
