YES! THERE IS A HARDESTY/SLAUBAUGH CONNECTION! The immigrant, Joseph Slaubaugh (married to Elizabeth Hershberger), had a son John (mar. Veronica Gnagey), had a son Jacob (mar. Martha Ann Arnold), had a son Sommers Samuel (married Iva Mae Wotring) had a daughter, Beulah Juanita Slaubaugh who married David C. Hardesty. They owned a garage/gas station/restaurant on rt. 50 between Aurora and Red house. They went by the nicknames "Boob and Dave". They had 2 children, Katherine L. Hardesty (Kathy)who had cerebral palsy and David Hardesty. Dave (David C.) died in 1994 and his daughter Kathy continued to live in the place on Rt. 50 until her death circa 2005 or 2006. I do not know who Daves parents were. Maybe you recognize the family.
There is also the possibility that Ella Elizabeth Gnagy Hardesty is also connected to the Slaubaughs. The immigrant Joseph's daughter Elizabeth married Samuel Gnegy (there are several spellings of the last name of the descendants of this family). Also as noted above, Elizabeth's brother, John married Veronica Gnagey. Samuel and Veronica were brother and sister, the children of Jacob Gnegi and Veronica Hochstetler. So, there most likely is a connection somewhere. As you do your family research on both sides of your family who knows what you may find. Claudia
