Hi

Sam and Ida were my grandparents too. I am assuming by your last name Jason is your father - and your grandfather was Roy and sam and ida were your great grandparents. Sam was my grandmother Ida's second husband. I never knew my mother's father and always considered Sam my grandfather. I loved him every much. They lived in Flatbush. He passed away in 1973.

If this is the correct Sam and Ida Skolnik please let me know I would love to hear from you.

Maybe this person is related to my family member who bears the same name. He spelled his original name Yehoshua which is noted was later changed to Joseph. I have no birth or death date I only know he was married to a Bluma Brownstein who was born in 1866 and died in 1940 in I think Germany from causes unknown. There is some evidence though to implicate that maybe she died in a concentration camp, but I don't know this for a fact. They had eight children Ann, Esther, Ethel, Frances, Ida, Mae, Samuel, and Abraham (my great grandfather). Any information about him would be greatly appreciated.

Whoops, small mistake in what I sent you. It wouldn't have been given name "Nissan," as in the Hebrew month, which was what I thought at first. It was just pointed out to me that in the Ashkenazi-Jewish or Yiddishized pronunciation, the name Nathan or Natan would have been pronounced Nah-sahn. You frequently see this spelled as Noson.

Nancy, I think I may have a connection to your Selina. My husband's maternal grandfather was Nathan Scholnik, who immigrated to the U.S. from Homel in 1912 -- as Nissan Skolnikov. He was first married to my husband's grandmother, Sarah Grenberg/Greenberg, and they had one child, my husband's mother, Batya/Bertha Scholnik (this family is in the 1920 census in the Bronx). They broke up/divorced in the early 1920s and Nathan, sometimes known as Naoum, married a woman named Selina. They had one child -my husband's "Uncle Ed" -Edgar Howard Scholl, b. 1922, d. 2003.

Selina Skolnik

I am researching a Jewish family who came from Gomel (or Homel), Russia, to the US in the early 1900's. There were two brothers and a sister that we know immigrated around the same time. The Declaration of Intention for the older brother,
Schneier Rubinovitz, (who changed his name to Samuel Rubin) states that he sailed from Liverpool, England, May 17, 1906, on the Tunisian, landed at Quebec, from Quebec went on to Montreal, arrived at the port of Constable, Pennsylvania on February 4, 1908 and took a train to Williamsport, PA. On
his Petition for Naturalization, he states he immigrated from Liverpool. His younger brother David Rabinovich's Declaration of Intention is very faint and most of it is unreadable, but he lists his last foreign residence as Montreal. He was only 24 at the time and his wife was 18. He came by rail on the New York Central RR to New York City on August 1, 1906, and then went to Williamsport. I have read that there were pogroms in Gomel in 1903 and 1905, which we are supposing were the reason they left Russia. All the information I have about Selina (not sure of the spelling) is that she was married to a man named Skolnik and lived in New York. We have been told his name was Naun. Any information would be appreciated.
Nancy

hi lisa,
interestingly enough, my father's parents migrated from Russia in the early 1900's and
although they didn't initially move to Monticello, they ended up there. My grandfather's name was
Morris Skolnik who I believe moved to Philadelphia and met my grandmother, Rose who was also from Russia.
They married and moved to Brooklyn, New York, and then moved to Monticello where they lived until
their deaths. My cousin, Roy Howard, I believe still lives in Monticello. I don't recall a Joseph
Skolnik, but perhaps he does. I don't keep in touch with my cousin and haven't spoken to him for years; nor have
I been back to Monticello since the 1950's.

good luck,
sandra

I came across your posting. I think my grandfather, Samuel Skolnik and his wife, Bessie Solomon, may have come from Lvov in the Ukraine.
Lord, I wish I could say I was the one you are looking for, however, I'm a musician, not a doctor...a healer of another sort.

I feel that you have been searching as long and as deep as I; thus I do know how you feel.

Good luck to you...

(the other) Jeffery Skolnik

Hi, I have been searching now for many yrs., for a dear friend of mine! His Name IS JEFFREY SKOLNICK. You studied in the medical field. You had one of your internships at Burbank Community Hospital in Los Angeles, while I too was doing my internship there but in Respiratory. You moved to Chicago, I remained in Los Angeles for awhile, returned to New Jersey, but returned again to California. You had either a sister or Grandma living in Floridia. We would laugh about your poster of Einstein hanging in your apt in Los Angeles, as I thought you to be even smarter. Please, if you are out there somewhere, and even if you did not finish Grad school, I must see and talk with you at least one more time. You have left a gap in my heart for many many yrs...Your Buddie, Richie Ward
