I saw this name posted and wondered what the origin is. In researching the Gallegos family tree, we found that in the 1800's in New Mexico, one of our relatives gave birth to a son by someone with a similar last name. She didn't marry him and it's probabable he was just passing through. We only know that his last name was pronounced Shavosky although the "b" and "v" can sound very similiar especially in Spanish. He was a prospector and probably German or Dutch.
Any info helpful!
