ISRAEL SJOBERG- bio
Israel Sjoberg was born in Sweden on 16 February 1866, to Jonas and Catherina (Bloom) Sjoberg; he was educated in the elementary schools there.

In 1888, he came to America and to Roseau, Minnesota. Here he engaged in general store business. In partnershop with a brother, Peter, he opened a branch store in Badger. The brothers accumulated about five thousand acres of county land, and added a flour mill at Badger to their operations.

Israel married Laura Miller in 18 June 1897, but there were no children born to this union.

He was elected Mayor of Roseau Village for several terms. At that time there were only dirt streets in town, and streets were not always in good condition. After rains he would hitch a split log back of his car and drag the streets to smooth out the ruts.
