If your Sjobergs are from Vilhelmina, we're probably connected. I don't have an Erhard Sjoberg per se, but I do have data on a Jonas Erhard Sjoberg (my 1st cousin 3x removed) who immigrated to Roseau County, Minnesota. That's where most of the Dorotea / Vilhelminia Sjobergs seem to have ended up (including my great-grandfather). Do you have any specific names or dates?

Hello, Cousin Teri!

Inga Petronella Sjoberg was my 1st Cousin, 3 times removed. You may come across some postings from Wendy Kay--her husband's family is descended from Hulda Lovisa Sjoberg (another one of Inga's sisters; there were 8 children total), and she shared with me much of the information I have on the extended Sjoberg family in America. I should stress that I do not have source data for anything except my own branch. You will also find the Sjoberg family in a couple of different family trees in the World family tree on Ancestry.

Dorryce (Sjoberg) Brintnell is also a cousin through Jonas Erhard Sjoberg (son of Erick Sjoberg).

To the best of my knowledge, our common ancestors were Israel Sjoberg (1800-1884) and Inga Lisa Jonsdotter (1814-1894). The family is all from Dorotea and the surrounding area, in the northern part of Sweden. There were eight children; at least three of the resulting "branches" from the brothers--Jonas, Israel, and Erick, emmigrated to America.

I myself am descended from Jonas Sjoberg (b.1832) and Katarina Margareta Blom (1828-1905). I can send you detailed information or a gedcom on my line, if you want.

I have it in my mind to try to do a small book of American Sjobergs at some point, so please stay in touch. It seems amazing to me that although the cousins all settled in the same general area of Minnesota, within a generation, they had completely lost contact with one another.....

Best regards,
Sara Sjoberg

Hi right back to you cousin! I would love to send you my file, but I can't figure out how to do it without including tons of other stuff you would not be interested in. I just did a trial on it and ended up sending the whole thing to Ancestry.com. Oops, hope my aunts don't mind their phone numbers out in the world. I could fax it or mail it to you since I have figured out how to print specific families. For now, I will try and capture the main characters in this note.

Inga Pettronella Sjoberg married Ole Anders Hattling. They had 5 children: Signe Eleanora Lenea, Gerda, Arnold Halvard, Lillie and my grandmother Blenda Louisa.

Inga Pet. Sj. had 3 sisters ( Sarah, Alma and Hulda Lovisa) and 4 brothers. (Israel and I don't know the other names.) I know that Inga's husband first came to the US in 1905 with her brothers to scope things out and then Inga and the kids came over in 1906.

The Israel you have that was b. 1800 was the child of Israel Israelsson b.1777 and Brita Pahlsdr. The Israel b. 1777 was the child of Ivar Johansson b.1730 and Anna Matsdotter b. 1734. Iver was the child of Johan Ivarsson b.1704.

Inga Lisa was the child of Johas Jonsson and Margreta Samuelsdotter.

My mother is the daughter of Blenda b.1901 who married Gunnar Welin.

Let me know if any of this helps. Teri Hanson

Hello, Cenneth!

In which part of Sweden do you live? I had a chance to visit Vilhelmina back in September 2004. I thought is was amazing and would love to go back some day.

Ingrid Albertina Israelsdotter Sjöberg was my 2nd great-grandaunt. Her brother, Jonas (b 22 Nov 1832), was my 2nd great-grandfather. All of his children emigrated to the USA (except Katarina and Kilian, who died young), but Jonas and his wife Katarina stayed in Sweden. I would love to know what happened to them and where they got buried, if you have any idea.

Would also love to know how the Sjobergs ended up in Lappland and where they came from originally. Denmark? Finland? We certainly don't look Sami.

Best regards,
Sara

Hello Sara, where did you go? Diden´t you go to www.ettnet.se/~cenneth

Do you know anything about a picture of Sjoberg Bros Mill, could it be the brothers Jonas, Israel and Per Sjöberg?
By the way Jonas Sjöberg had in all eight children, two died early and also Kilian died quite early, only 19 years.

Please contact me!

Hello, Cenneth:

Sorry for the delay. I have been in California, visiting my Aunt Joán (another Sjoberg). Yes, I did go to your website, and it has lots of wonderful information.

The "Sjoberg Brothers" in Roseau were my great-grandfather, Peter (Per) and his older brother, Israel. They owned the mill in Badger, several stores, and even a bank at one point, I think. Israel lived a full life, but he died without any children. Here is a picture of him:

More historical photos are available here:

There is a fabulous picture of my great-grandfather, Peter, with a Native American Chief, Mickinock, but I don't have it with me. Peter and Mickinock were friends who used to go fishing together.

Here is a picture of Peter's family:

Roy was my grandfather (my Aunt Joán here in California is his daughter). Cecil never married, and Margaret could not have children, so she adopted. John and Peter Jr. have descendents, and I stay in touch with these cousins.

I was told that Kilian died in Sweden in a drowning accident. There was also a sister, Katarina, who died young. I think all of the surviving siblings emigrated to Minnesota (going off of memory here, since my database is at home).

I have some sketchy information on other Sjoberg descendents in America that I can share with you if you're interested. I have always wanted to try to compile an American Sjobergs genealogy and have just lacked the time to do it all. :-)
