Does anyone out there know anything about the Whitetop Band of Cherokee that was formed in 1896 by the Sizemore Family after they were all rejected by the Eastern Cherokee Application(ECA)? I was given info on a group of Mixed blood people calling themselves Melungeons. The Sizemore family, including Edward"Old Ned" Sizemore, were recongized as Melungeon. The Sizemores are still a recognized Melungeon group of people. I have photo copied letters of testimonies from 1800's from Sizemores giving accounts of their Indian heritage. they have many interesting family history stories. There is a lot on Old Ned Sizemore. One of these letters confirms that the Sizemores formed the Whitetop Band of Cherokee Indians as an official Indian tribe of Melungeons because the Sizemores were rejected as Cherokee Indians by the Government. I would love to hear from anyone who has more info on this topic. My email is LDSMOM33@aol.com
