HOWLAND – Katherine L. Siwicki, 84, passed away peacefully at her home at 12:05 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010.

She was born in Warren, Ohio Nov. 10, 1925, one of 12 children, to Harry and Catherine (Mahynls) Siwicki.(?)

A lifetime area resident, she attended Warren, Ohio schools and retired from Hill’s Department Store, where she was a cashier for 19 years.

Katherine was a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul had volunteered in the pediatric dept. at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Her parents were both born in Russia and she was very proud of her ethnic heritage. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, and babysitting for the children in her family. She had a zest for life and loved traveling and the outdoors.

She met her beloved husband, Andrew on Valentine’s Day in 1943 and they were engaged two weeks later. Andrew was in the service and they were married in Seattle on May 1, 1943 and later at Sts. Peter and Paul, when he returned to Warren. They shared 56 years of marriage until his death July 28, 1999.

Katherine also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Andrew Jr. in 2007; three sisters, Anna, Mary and Jennie; and five brothers, John, Frank, Harry, George and Adam.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Ms. Janet Parker of Warren, Ohio; Edward (Velma) Siwicki of Spokane, Wash., John (Shirley) Siwicki of Cortland, Ohio; Mary Kay (Frank) Dillon, with whom she made her home in Howland; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Olga (Edward) Fischer of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Alex (Betty) Hray of North Augusta, S.C.; Rudy (Patty) Hray of Warren, Ohio.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Roberts Clark Chapel where there will be a Panachida service at 7 p.m.

Funeral service 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church
Interment will be at Sts Peter and Paul Cemetery.
