Andrew "Duke" Sivak, 93, of Clairton,
passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011,
in Mt. Vernon of South Park.
Born Nov. 27, 1917, in Clairton,
he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Plisko) Sivak. Duke retired after 68 years as a blast furnace technician at U.S. Steel's Clairton Works and was a member of Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Clairton, He was a veteran of the Army, earning a Purple Heart for his service in Germany during World War II. Duke loved to dance, and that's how he met his wife of 42 years, whom he now joins, Catherine (Maturkanic) Sivak, who passed away Nov. 23, 2010. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lynn "Vicky" Pivarnik, of Clairton; his son, Andrew (Denise) Sivak, of South Park; his grandchildren, Richard, Michelle and Eric Pivarnik and Amanda and Ashley Sivak; and also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the A.J. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME, 555 Fifth St., Clairton, PA 15025 (412-233-5700), with a Parastas service being held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church with the Rev. Ivan Mina officiating. Procession and burial to follow to Ascension Cemetery in Clairton.
