Hi Lorna,
Thanks for your reply. I am not tracing any Sinton's. James Sinton's death record was attached to the one I ordered for my Great Grandmother and I thought I would just post the information incase anyone else could use it.

You are right with the newspaper article, as the cause of death for James was 'fractured skull (motorcycle accident)'.
Let me know if you could use a copy of the record, or if you hear of anyone in the future.

I have also posted the same information under Bourhill, who was the wife of James - Laura Bourhill - incase someone from that side of his family is interested.

The informant for James's death was his brother, R Sinton, is this correlates with your information.

Regards, Judith

Thanks for posting.
Anyone interested in where he "fits" in the overall SINTON tree, can find an abbreviated descendant chart oriented towards lines likely to produce dna project participants at:

http://dnasurnames.info/lineages/dcsintonlineage1a.htm
(One of the "Jedburgh" line of SINTONS that have been shown to be connected to the "Southdean" SINTONs via dna testing).

A newspaper report of the time shows the poor chap came off second best in a collision with a bus while riding to work on his motor cycle.

Were you looking for another James SINTON?
Regards
Lorna
Project Admin SINTON Surname DNA Project
http://dnasurnames.info/lineages/spSINTONLineages.htm

Hi again Jud,
Is it family information about Isabella and son George Sinton JACKSON?
I have your Isabella up to 1891 census when she was living in Rothbury with her niece, your Eleanor.
As father John isn't with her, (he was in 1881) I think he is more likely to be the John, aged 75, death registered Rothbury in 1888, Sep qtr than a 1903 John.
The 1903 John, aged 87, death registered Berwick, looks more like the widower of a Prudence someone, mother of an Isabella who is with them in 1891 and with her widowed father John in 1901 at Tweedmouth, Berwick, as are some JACKSON grandchildren.
I've not followed this Isabella back beyond 1891, but am reasonably certain that this is a different Isabella.
"Your" one was born 1852 Bamburgh, this one, with Jackson connections, was born 1837, Ancroft.
What do you think?

Regards
Lorna
http://familytree.lornahen.com/spSINTON.htm

Hi again "Jud186",
Yes, I remember our "conversation", and yes, this John is your Stanley's ancestor.
Given John's (b1813) marr. cert says his father is James, the 1813 baptism to John and Mary in Newcastle is much more likely to be the John son of John SINTON and Mary INGO, who went on to marry Mary BALMER.
They may or may not be related, but it was looking at your John's marriage cert to Eleanor RIDDELL that made me realise I was in danger of mingling two families into one.
I'm reasonably sure that the John son of John and Mary (INGO) SINTON died in 1854, which would leave the 1903 death as a possibility for your one. I see that I've not followed him beyond 1881 as yet (Rothbury).
Given there are only daughters surviving beyond infancy, I guess my hope of a male SINTON to represent this line in the SINTON DNA project is a bit forlorn, but there should be some from the INGO line around.

Regards,
Lorna
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/sinton/
Hi Lorna,
I recall that we corresponded on this a few years back, so this possibly isn't news to you, but I believe that the John Sinton in question, born abt. 1813, is my great great great grandfather. It seems you know more about it than I have uncovered, as I did not know of the marriage to Eleanor Riddle, although that fits quite nicely.

It's interesting that Eleanor R. was a house servant, since Bamburgh Castle was a school for domestic servant girls at about this time, and in later census data, John & family seem to have lived & worked there as a "porter".

Almost all of this comes from census data, so again probably not news to you, but ... I think John had two daughters, Mary and Isabella. Isabella seems to have eventually had a son, George Sinton Jackson. Meanwhile, Mary had a daughter, my Great Grandmother, Eleanor Sinton. Eleanor had Stanley Sinton in about 1901 (my grandfather). Stanley came to Canada alone as a young boy - probably a "home" boy although we have never found a record confirming this.

I have once seen a birth certificate on-line that may or may not be *this* John's; it indicated John was born 1813/10/21, baptized in 1814, with parents John and Mary. The place is listed as All Saints, and the parish is Newcastle, John Knox (Presbyterian), Nbl.

I also found an indication of a death certificate on-line that may fit, which indicated John Sinton died in 1903.

And another update.
The Irish SINTONs and the Southdean SINTONs appear to be distantly related (a 34/37 marker match, with the unmatched markers being in the more volatile range of markers).

More participants are welcome, both distant cousins of those already tested, and new lines not yet represented.
All will help pinpoint how these matched lines join together.
Follow progress via the project diary at
http://sintondna.blogspot.com/

Regards
Lorna
Project Admin, Sinton Surname DNA Project
http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/sinton/

Jean, I am not sure myself about that but maybe through the LSD could help here. I live in Australia and have collated information just for myself and family. My father was Sydney Thomas Sinton born Newcastle 1905 to James Donald Sinton, son of George Sinton & Margaret Walker. I also have the information of Sarah Ellen Kent whose mother was Mary Balmer, my gggrandmother. My father had her eyes. If you have this information the first John Ingo was born in abt 1813, his mother's maiden name Ingo. Then Ingo was carried through from here.

My son Robert Ingo Sinton (who now has a son Joseph Thomas Sinton) was born in 1969. My husband (now deceased)was Thomas Edwin Sinton. he was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ at the time my son was born, he was addammant that INGO was included in his name. Because of this I started to do a search ,I was curious to know why INGO was so important.I had a lot of info and it was all sent to Salt Lake city,in 1969 there was a lot of it had alresdy been collated by another branch of the family namely Mrs Sarah Bowerbank and the Kent family who were half brothers. I would like to put my information in ,but i am not very good at computer yet and I don't quite know how.

I was looking at a family of Bamburgh SINTONs - anyone researching them?
A marriage cert that may be of interest to someone:
23 May 1843: John SINTON, coachman, s/o James SINTON, labourer, and Eleanor RIDDLE, house servant d/o Thomas RIDDLE, mason, both resident Waren, married at the Bamburgh Parish Church, Northumberland, both signed.
Witnessed by Robert TINDALE, Eleanor WAKE, William ?BALMER?, Ann ROGERS

I eventually convinced myself that this John remarried a Mary Ann FARROW in 1856

Not known to be my SINTONs, but always interested to find out, and eliminate them from my inquiries by linking them all up into their respective families.

Or get a representative of a new line into the SINTON Surname DNA Project
http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/sinton/
John signed, Mary her mark, witnesses look like Amy Dodds and John Findlay.
Married by licence.

Lorna
http://sintondna.blogspot.com/

Hi Jean,
Whereas the INGO/SINTON family isn't mine (that I know of), would your son be interested in representing this SINTON line in the SINTON Surname dna project?
http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/sinton/
has the details and basic information about the process etc
Testing is cheaper if you join via a project (the light grey menu "Join project" link.

Basically it's harmless, painless and WONT have the police or insurance people knocking on your door to arrest you or turn you down for medical insurance.

For checking family connections, 37 markers would be the recommended minimum, but 67 would be even better.

As this isn't my direct family, I've only snippets of information on it from my general SINTON diggings.
I can see I've noted a Robert Ingo SINTON b 1901, son of George SINTON and Margaret WOOLRIDGE (marr. 1899) and have assumed that this Robert Ingo had a brother Ernest K b. 1911 but I don't know where this George fits in with all the John Ingo SINTONs that exist.

Any questions about the dna, respond via the email on that web site, happy to answer them, especially if it means another SINTON branch is represented.

Regards
Lorna
http://familytree.lornahen.com/spSINTON.htm

now being a Sinton I'll have to argue that there is a "hair issue". My Dad James Henry Sinton had a fairly even hairline (although it was thin overall) right up to his passing @ age 80. I too (@50) still have a good hairline. So perhaps we are just talking about a different branch of the Sinton family? Ours originated from the Gloustershire region of England. I am still trying to trace it but I'm having far more luck with my Mother's (Gwladys Rosamund Sinton nee; Grubb) side of the family who came from Monmouthshire, Wales.

regards,

Dave Sinton
"dave.sinton@shaw.ca"

Anyone researching, or connected to, the family of John SINTON and Mary WILSON?
They had several children christened in Muggleswick, from 1801 to 1812 (Jane, John Wilson, Peter, Joseph)
1841 shows John as not born county (which I'm hoping makes him born Scotland and the son of Peter SINTON and Janet DONALDSON)
Wife Mary not present, but Joseph and Peter are, along with a possible dtr Mary.
A Mary SINTON of the right age and place, married Edward SCOTT in Benfieldside in 1855 and is living with him in 1861, along with her brother Peter SINTON, and as her mar. cert says her father is John...
Edward and Mary seem to have had several pre marriage children who appear variously in census records as either SINTON or SCOTT depending on who the head of the household is.

Joseph SINTON married Sarah CLEMITSON, and later Ann BROWN
A descendant of Joseph and Sarah (Mary Ann COULSON) marries a descendant of Peter SINTON and Janet DONALDSON, just to add to my circumstantial evidence of a connection between the Roxburghshire and Durham/Northumberland SINTON families.

Love to hear from anyone with a connection to these families.

Hi Lynn,

Having just been contacted by a grandson of this couple because of my interest in SINTONs from both sides of the Borders, I've had a look on the 1901 census.
Whereas I haven't seen the actual entry, I can say that on the same image page living at Byker in Northumberland:

Mary SINTON born Warson Mill… 53 cook domestic
Eleanor SINTON 24 born Ferry Hill Co Durham “Bar Man”
Hanley SINTON 4m b Byker, Newcastle (which could be why I couldn’t find him indexed as Stanley, the only Stanley indexed was 4 born Billingham Durham)
Which fits with the information from my correspondent that Stanley was the son of Eleanor, and Eleanor was the dtr of a Mary SINTON

Eleanor was living with her grandfather John SINTON in 1881 at Rothbury, Northumberland. He may, or may not, be some connection with "my" SINTON families.

Hope this helps
Regards
Lorna
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/lornahen/
Anyone out there with info on the MATHER branch of the descendants of Peter SINTON and Janet DONALDSON of Southdean, ROX?
Peter and Janet's daughter Janet married a James MATHER in 1803, and when she died in 1855 the following children were listed as still alive:
Janet, James, Ann, Margaret and Cecilia, with predecased children listed as Agnes, John, Peter.
I know that Ann married Matthew HENDERSON, and have just found that Cecilia married William TELFER.
Would love to know what happened to the rest of the MATHER family.

Regards
Lorna
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hendersonandandrews...
Update to the SINTON DNA project:
Two Southdean SINTONs have now been proven to be relations.
"my" lot, Peter & Janet (DONALDSON) SINTON, and the family of John & Alison (HALL) SINTON who married at Southdean in 1829, and are buried at Eckford.
Descendants of both are only a 12/12 match (so far), so it is rather hard to figure out exactly how they're related, but nevertheless, they are.

A fourth kit has yet to be processed - that of a descendant of the Jedburgh family of William SINTON and Isabella SCOTT.

Check out the pages below - more participants welcome.

Regards
Lorna
Project Administrator, SINTON Surname DNA Project
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/sinton/
http://familytree.lornahen.com/spSINTON.htm

SINTON Surname DNA Project

A reminder that a DNA Project exists to try and determine relationships between the assorted SINTON lines.
A 3rd participant has registered, and any other SINTON males would be welcome.
Check out the project pages at
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/sinton/

If thinking about getting tested, there are some heavy discounts available until the end of August.
Follow the Join Project link to make sure you get offered the discounted rates (no I don't get a cut, I just want to see how closely all these SINTON families are related).

You don't have to be a dna participant to submit pedigrees for the Patriarchs page which is intended to show the assorted lines.

Personally, at the moment I'm trying to find descendants of any families who were at Southdean who may connect to mine, or I believe do, but would like more proof:
- John and Mary (WILSON) SINTON of Mugglesfield, then Shotley Bridge, both Durham, England
- John & Alison (HALL) SINTON
- James and Janet (OLIVER) SINTON who had children born Burnkinford and Strangeburnfoot, Southdean

Regards
Lorna
Project Administrator, SINTON Surname DNA Project
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/sinton/
http://familytree.lornahen.com/spSINTON.htm

SINTONs of Southdean, ROX & Northumberland

I'm very interested in tracking down SINTON surnamed descendants of any of the Southdean, Roxburghshire SINTON families, and any that may have strayed over the border into Northumberland.
Can anyone claim to belong to any of these families?
* John & Mary (WILSON) SINTON This John is of an age to be the son of the Patrick who is probably my Peter SINTON who married Janet DONALDSON, but had the mishap to die in England where death certs don't have enough data on them. Lived Mugglesfield, then Shotley Bridge, both Durham, England
* John & Alison (HALL) SINTON John was born Southdean abt 1807 but died in 1854, prior to civil registration. Descendants inter-connect with several other families of interest to me
* James & Janet (OLIVER) SINTON Born say 1737, married Janet OLIVER 1762 at Southdean, children born Burnkinford and Strangeburnfoot, Southdean, bit much of a coincidence for there not to be some connection with my Peter
* John & Ann (KNOX) SINTON John was born Southdean c 1798, ag lab at Crailinghall, Jedburgh 1841 and 1851

Regards
Lorna
Project Administrator for SINTON Surname DNA Project
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/s/sinton/
http://familytree.lornahen.com/spSINTON.htm

Further digging adds that there are two Ernest K SINTON births registered in Newcastle in 1911, one in the March qtr, and another in the Sep. qtr, whose mother was a WOOLDRIDGE.
This latter is probably the son of George SINTON and Margaret WOOLDRIDGE whose marriage is registered in Newcastle on Tyne in the Dec qtr of 1899 and are the parents of Robert Ingo SINTON.

Hope this helps someone
Regards
Lorna
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/s/sinton/

Audrey,
Long time since you posted, but recent activity on this thread made me revisit what I have.

There's an 18 yr old Ernest SINTON, of St ?(Romans Hse, Sanchyford)? Rd, Newcastle T, sugar boiler, sailing from Liverpool to New York on the "Adriatic", 3 May 1930.
Is this your Ernest?

Regards,
Lorna
http://familytree.lornahen.com/spSINTON.htm

Francis SINTON, Rothbury

I've just been reminded of another Rothbury SINTON connection when I was looking at a Francis Douglas SINTON in my database.
In 1901 he was living at home in Hawick, Roxburghshire, with Mum Isabella SINTON nee WIGHT, as a laundry vanman.
I can spot a 1904 marriage registered in the District of Glendale, of a Francis Douglas SINTON to either Margaret BRYSON or Margaret Alice RUNCIMAN.
I was wondering if he might be the PC Francis SINTON awarded the Kings Medal for bravery after being shot while tackling armed raiders in Rothbury in 1920.
(This came from a web search which popped up a book on Northumberland crimes by a Nigel Green "Tough Times & Grisly Crimes", but matches an article I'd previously noted from the Scotsman archives (Tues 2nd March 1920) about "a dastardly attack" on "PC Francis SINTON at the quiet little village of Rothbury"

Can anyone claim this Francis and confirm or deny whether he's the son of John Gillies SINTON and Isabella nee WIGHT from Scotland?
I'm making the possible link because John Gillies SINTON was a policeman, so it seemed likely that son Francis might become one as well.

Regards
Lorna
http://familytree.lornahen.com/

Hi, I have a very old photograph album that I purchased from an antique shop in West Sussex in 1986. It contains photographs of John Ingo Sinton, wife Mary Elizabeth Maule, His brother George and lots of other family members. A Jessie Brown (who was John's grandaughter) had written on most of the pages infomation re each picture. She had put the date of writing April 1985, I assume she died after writing it.I have researched some of the family (in between researching my own)and have come up with some bits.

Hi
My great grandfather was George Sinton, brother to John Ingo. think the John Ingo is possible cousin to my grandfather James Sinton. I do not have any photos of past family, is it possible to be able to get copies from you? Any information that I have you are welcome to have.
