I’ve been searching the records to no avail in an attempt to track down a couple of my Sinclair ancestors, and wondered if anyone has any information, or can help in any way?
I have a DANIEL SINCLAIR in my tree that, according to others also researching him, says he was born in 1781 in Huntingdonshire, England, and died in 1841 also in Hungtingdonshire. A few of the other trees I’ve looked at have him born in 1781 in North Yell, Shetland Islands, Scotland. Those other trees also have his father listed as WILLIAM SINCLAIR, born in 1734 in Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Scotland.
With the dates being pre the census era I can find nothing about either of them in either the Scottish or the Parish records. But, I wonder if it was possible that William did come to Huntingdonshire as, (via the Earl of Huntingdon), there was some connection between the Shetland Islands and Huntingdonshire. Perhaps William had to move during what we know as the Highland Clearances.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
