Hey,

I was very interested to run across this topic. Unfortunately, I read it wrong the first time--I thought it might lead to one of the big mysteries in my family line I've been trying to unravel. Alas, not so much.

You state that Mary Simunek married Andrew Stironek, but she didn't. They lived together later in life, but they never married (nor had any children) as my Great Grandfather Andrew and my Great Grandmother Rose were never divorced. Mary and Andrew ran a boarding house and lived together in the years leading up to their deaths.

Andrew Stironek was actually married to Rose Marie Kokta (Kochta)-daughter of Joseph Kokta and Mary Beran, and she was the mother of his children.

The mystery is *who* my Great Grandfather actually was. He was estranged from his family (he was a runaway) and changed his name some time between 1899 and 1915. If anyone can shed further light on that, I'd be most grateful.

Thanks!

I just got on the web site....www.mapy.cz
It seems the village Uhrov is just slightly
east of Vilemov, and that would be in the
area of the Simuneks. Always grateful for your
information and insight! A fresh pair of eyes
always helps...

I just found Marie Simunek born Koudela & her husband, & two children at Ancestry in the Hamburg passenger lists - the lists in German that were just made a available. I had much of this info from the English passenger lists, but not their residence. Another relative- a daughter of a Koudela mother- was born in Ouhrov in 1893.
See Simunek
Marie Simunek
Departure Date: 3 Feb 1884
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1836
This places their residence as Ouhrov (also spelled Uhrov), Caslav just before they sailed.
Other Simuneks are liste. I also searched the database by Ouhrov and Uhrov.
I have found a number of Simunek's this last year, in Nebraska. One was from the Red Cloud, Nebraska. Turns out,
she's my gg-grandmother's sister. It seems there's a letter that sat for 10 years in Simanek file. Spelling different, and completely different family. What I do know, there was a great number of Simunek's in the area of yours and my ancestors. I don't doubt we are connected!

Joseph Simunek married Marie Koudela (daughter of my second great grandfather)in Bohemia. Joseph and Marie immigrated and lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio for years. Joseph died 11 July 1915 in Warrensville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Joseph and Marie and relatives are buried in Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland.

Joseph's wife, Mary Koudela, was born 10 January 1835 in Moravany (near Caslav) in Bohemia. Mary died 27 Aug 1920 in Cleveland.

Know three of their four children:
-Mary, married Andrew Stironek and had six or seven children in Cleveland.
-Frank, married Mary Vojta and had two children - Mary and Rosa.
-Joseph, was born calculated 1870 and was buried 3 May 1890.

Have a good bit more info on Simunek and Stironek, and a lot more on Koudela.

Would be delighted to exchange info.

Tom
