Hi M. Bennett, I am sorry, I got my people mixed up. Had just sent a message to a James Simpson. But, I just ran across you posting and I am hoping you can help me. My GGrandfather's name was either W.J.Simpson, or J.W.Simpson. Everone is in agreement that he was called "Jim", so I assume the J. stands for James. And most of us think that the W. stood for William. But it all depends on who you talk to as to which initial came first. He married a Mary ? and 3 of their children were: Emma Elizabeth Hodges nee Simpson b.1893(my Grandmother), Minnie Lee Dowdy nee Simpson b.1879, and Charlie (maybe Charles)b. abt. 1882. I know there were other children but don't have their names. Please get back to me, I hope there is a connection here. Oh, the family lived in Tenn., Ark., Lousianna. Thanks, Linda

Babe Simpson was a member of the Bunch gang - led by Clarence Bunch. They robbed banks and killed a few people. Babe was a nickname but nobody on myside knows his real name. His father was Jess. He married a girl from Virginia and may have lived there. My grandmother thinks he might have died after Ida, sometimes in the 70's. Did some of the family live in Petros or Wartburg area? My mother remembers traveling to somewhere in Morgan County to visit some of Ida's people.

My husband post a picture of Babe Simpson on his website www.lesjones.com. I think he was about 20 or so. My grandmother and mother both remember him and said he was charming and they always loved to see him. I had an incorrect entry when I mentioned George. He was Ida's husband - and William was her father. It was my mistake. I did not know Ida's parents name until I found her death certificate. Rose lived with my Aunt Margaret on Woodlawn Pike after her husband died until she pasted away. Aunt Marg did not have any children. My mother and two of her nephews looked after her until her death last year. We got a box of her pictures but we do not know who half of them are. I will try and scan in some to send to you.

Wow. We did not know that Walt Simpson past away last year. After my grandfather - Tom Henry past away in 1991, we lost touch with most of his side of the family with the exception of his sister Margaret. She had to go into a nursing home and past away a couple of years later. Her memory was good for the last 10 or 20 years, but not for anything later. I tried to ask her about family but she either did not want to tell things or she could not remember. My mother remembers Walt telling the story of Babe robbing a bank with the Bunch gang, and they hid the money on the banks of the tennessee river. When the went back to retreive it, they forgot where it was. Walt said there was a lot of money buried some where on the bank. We are related. Ida's four children were Margaret, Harmon, Mary, Tom. They have all past away. Harmon's wife Rose is still living and Mary's husband Bill is still living. Both of them are in poor health.
