If you have him moving from Craven County North Carolina then check your date as prior to about 1788 when SC and 1789 NC became a state there was a large Craven County in what today is South Carolina and this may well be where this Simmons came from try the Darlington SC area just below Anson or Bladen North Carolina area today as this among other counties was part of old Craven as will a Marion and others....
