i have direct ancestors in new orleans whose surname is silk. i have seen the references in ancestry to silks in the northeast but i have no idea where this family came from. the patriarch is george silk, married to frances ???. i've only found him in the 1850 census for new orleans. i found just his wife and children in the 1860 census, so either he left the family or he died. his daughter, winifred cleburn silk, married william henry beasley, a wealthy sugar cane plantation owner in assumption parish louisiana. if any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. thanks very much in advance!
